Armrest advice

After 7 years on my '08 GD3 (and nearly 100k miles), I finally decided to put in an armrest. Better late than never, right?

The JDM one costs too much, and I'd be ok with the http://www.ebay.com/itm/201207452403?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT.

But I also ran across http://www.ebay.com/itm/320704649014?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT, and would like your opinion on it. I like that it flips up and slides forward, but it looks less stable because it only anchors into the square cubby instead of both square and round.

Have you tried/seen something like this? Was it ok?
Is it a 2nd gen Fit armrest mislabeled as a 1st gen armrest?
Is it a 2nd gen armrest ghetto-rigged to fit a 1st gen Fit?

Your thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

I have the usual one. After 8 years the "pleather" is failing and shedding. Not bad enough to replace, but not very pretty. It is still usable and probably will outlast the Fit, just not pretty after the years.

Just go with the first one, you won't regret having it.

Thanks guys. I'll be getting the usual cheap-o, then. Maybe two of them, and replace the first if my car's still alive in 8 years

Reply back when it's installed please and let us know how stable it is (i've been looking for a decent armrest for my 07).

I have "the usual one" and it is teh awesome. Only gripe is that the screws holding the lid occasionally loosen and need some tightening. No biggie. Maybe I should try some loctite

I installed the armrest a couple of days ago. It came with 4 self-tapping screws (no drilling required).

It looks and feels fine. It has some side-to-side flex, since it's only anchored into a thin piece of plastic, but seems sturdy enough.

It's roughly at the same height as the door armrest, which is nice. Inside the armrest there's a false bottom held only by gravity. This gives two good size compartments (one "real", one "secret"). I like the built-in coin holder, though quarters rattle a bit in it.

So far, it makes less of a difference than I thought it would. Still, it's nice to have and I'm glad I put it in.

Thanks for the pics. Seems like a great alternate to the overpriced OEM center console.

I have one that looks almost exactly like that on my GE Sport. I wonder if it would work on both model Fits. Have had mine for over 4 years and never even screwed it in. Works well & looks as good as when it was new, no cracks. From what I have read some people have problems with the leather cracking on the OEM console.

No it doesn't work. the GE8 console has different mount posts than the GD3 console. I like how the GE8's console looks but it won't mount properly.

Nice, I'll be ordering the exact same one with red stitching soon. For the price difference between this and the JDM OEM unit, I can deal with the armrest not sliding forward and there only being 1 cup holder for the rear.

Depends where you get it from and if it's used or not. I think $280 used and $400 new.

That's the same style as the first one I recommended. It's just "carbon"

Honda Access no longer produces the armrest.

With my car's clear windows everything I have can be seen and I hate that. I just ordered this one today, don't know why I waited so long. Looking forward to getting some decent storage finally.

The additional storage is probably my favorite part of having installed that armrest (comfort is a close second).

You could always get tint, though I'm personally not a fan of tinted windows. I just keep anything and everything hidden out of view. Our rear seats are good for that. Get a luggage cover if you don't already have one as well.

Yup, the seats are great and I do have the cargo cover installed in the back. The center console will be good for my ipod, gtech pro device, small things like that. I'm conteplating about getting tint though. I do like the super clean look of clear windows, but a light tint couldn't hurt either. There's so much glass, it gets hot in the summer with the black interior and exterior.
