Transmission fluid

Hi

Does a Honda Fit (2004) use CVTF or ATF automatic transmission fluid?

Does your car have a CVT transmission or an automatic transmission? (Honda has different fluids for each in N.A.)

Check the trans dipstick, does it have a tag that tells which fluid it requires?

Thank you for your reply.

It's CVT, confirmed with the local agency. On the dipstick, it was written ATF. That's confusing.

Do you have the owner's manual for your car? That would be worth finding. I'd want to be extremely confident in the decision, as you could ruin your transmission with the wrong fluid. It's worth delaying the fluid change until you are sure of things.

Those older CVT trans originally did use regular ATF, but Honda developed a CVT specific fluid around that time and it is now the official correct fluid.
ATF will probably work as well as it ever did but the CVT fluid will probably be a little better.

Honda now has more than one type of cvt fluid in use, and they are not interchangeable.
In the USA this would be the fluid for your CVT trans (picture):

The fluid called hcf2 is only for much newer cvt trans, not yours.
