I just got a 2009 AT sport, just looking for some advice as to the first engine mods to perform, the car definitely needs some acceleration help.

 

There aren't any. The car will reset itself to optimize fuel mileage. Any intake will just alter the noise level. Same with exhaust.

About only option is to drive downhill.

That being said, I have an Injen intake and an HKS Hi-Power exhaust and they've probably done nothing in terms of gains. However, they did give my car a better, throatier sound (makes me THINK it's faster).

 

Yeah i was thinking either the injen intake or the t1r carbon (If my next paycheck is big), would be the first engine mod after I get the glass tinted next week. You think my money would be better spent on suspension if the computer is gonna reset away any possible hp gains?

 

Definitely. After buying vinyl overlays for my fogs, window tint, and oem window visors, I purchased and installed Eibach Sportlines. But it's your car, so do what you like!

 

Agreed with above the CPU takes whatever you install and adjusts accordingly.

Spend your money on lightweight wheels and tires. About the only way to make any gains. That and losing a few pounds and getting rid of all your seats....

Heck I've even tried to put the good gas in the Fit and the ECU adjusted to that as well

 

I think mine is faster as well with the HKS

 

I find it hard to believe a good intake either short-ram or cold-air does nothing in the hp gain department for the fit at all. Every car ive owned its done at least something even if it's not significant. On my 05 civic coupe for example I got some throttle response and high end gain very minor tho..while on my 2012 Mustang the gains with the intake seemed great all around..every car takes bolt on's differently. Even if its minimal I'm sure you will get some sort of gain. I personally will be going with the K&N SRI for my new 2012 sport soon.

 

Such a minimal gain that it's irrelevant because I don't really feel a difference besides the throttle response being slower (probably from the length of the cold air intake). I find myself justifying the amount I spent on these parts by believing that the sound of the add-ons makes my car go faster haha.

Nitrous and spark plugs.

 

Wet shot nitrous, wideband oxygen sensor, spark plugs and a piggy back.

After you're done paying for intake and exhaust you're half way to doing something that actually makes power, might as well go all the way and skip the intake/exhaust lol

 

What happens is the ECU computes for best engine performance with a bias towards EMISSIONS and not PERFORMANCE.

My new intake was friggin awesome for about four days...then the ECU learned what the heck was going on and adjusted to normal levels...I have a very expensive noise maker in my car.

But hey! Good luck with you K&N noise maker.

 

For the nitrous, do the exhaust, skip the intake.

Think about where the extra exhaust flow is coming from

You've got to take the downpipe off to weld in a bung for the wideband sensor anyways, might as well upgrade and spend the money to get the bung welded on a bigger downpipe, with say a cable or sensor actuated cutout before the catalytic converter.

 

An electronic cut out like one of these would probably do nicely

If you do end up getting an intake check out the PRM. Lots of people seem to like the sound and they're a little cheaper than K&N.
