2009 Fit Rear Seat removal

HI,
I want to maximize space for camping gear.
Is it difficult to remove the rear seats?
Thanks,
~Dave

Nope. Just a couple bolts. I can't remember exactly how many off the top of my head and I'm too lazy to look for you, but something like four or six.

How do you think seat removal will affect the car's handling when you haven't got the car full of gear? Just wondering.

It will make the car slightly more front heavy, but the rear seat is much lighter than, for example, an adult in the passenger seat of the car.

Unless you're racing your Fit on a closed course (or driving far too aggressively on public roads) I don't think it would be noticeable.

@Drew21 Me? Drive aggressively?

Knocking 500 lbs. off of the Fit would give it a very attractive power-to-weight ratio. Just dreaming a little dream here, but if one were to do such a thing, one would probably have to figure out how to deal with a nose-heavy buggy.

I doubt the rear seats weigh anything near 500 lbs.

I posted the weight of the two sections on a different thread a year or two ago. At the moment I can't remember 1) where I found the information or 2) what the exact values were, but I have a very vague feeling that the total was in the 60-80 lb range.
I think it would be very difficult to remove 500 lb from an approximately 2500 lb car.

You are correct, sir. My idea was to remove more than just the seats.

Undoubtedly, you are correct, sir. You'd have to strip the car to such a degree that it would be like a "spec Fit" race car and probably not suitable of legal road use. Making the car that much lighter remains just a dream. Still, the Fit has such a sweet, little powertrain . . . I think it gets muffled under all the weight.
