Question Spare (3rd) key?

Is there any way to get a small, plain copy of my key? I like to have a hideaway key on the car for those times I get locked out. (Which is sadly way too often. ) Basically, all it has to do is open the driver's side door (NOT start the car)... does that mean I can just get a plain copy rather than have to get one with the microchip?

Now the trick is finding a place to hide it... my old car had enough metal under the front bumper that I could use a magnetic key holder and stick it under there.

I don't think you can. Our keys are laser cut.

Slug

When I picked up my car from the dealer I got a spare key.. They called it a slug, got it at the parts department, took them one minute to make and charged me $10.00 plus tax.

It opens the door without setting off alarm. But will not start the car. You keep the chip key inside car somewhere. I got it without the plastic finger grip. It's just a flat piece of metal so it fits in a wallet or anywhere else easily.

Someone talked about it on this forum some months back and it sounded like a good thing to have.

After the dealer copies it, try it in the door.

I had ridden a bike when I took my key to be copied, and when I returned home, the key would not insert fully.

I drove the Fit back, and they ground down the thickness of the key very slightly to make it FIT.

Are you saying there's no room now to hide the spare key under the body? I want to do the same.
