Well, this whole thread is about people giving their opinions on the matter already. If you haven't figured that out, what have you been doing? I know there are well over 200 posts in this topic, making a lot of pages... so, if anything, you should read the first and then the last page.

Folks like myself, use the MM to do the oil change. So, we do it at 15% (actually, I've gone past it both times so far).

Other folks use their own schedule. Some are 3k... some are some other set amount.

Pick one and go with it.

 

To rehash- the factory oil is break-in oil that Honda suggests keeping in until the car tells you to change it. After that it's up to you.

 

I am at the 4000 mile mark since I purchased the Fit in January and I am at 60%. I plan on using the MM system for oil changes...I used to do every 7500 miles with my previous car, but I trust Honda's engineers with the MM.

 

Wait until 15%. someone just posted their 2nd Oil analysis at 19K+ miles (2nd oil change) and again it said that the oil had more life to it. That's an average of 10K miles per oil change that could have gone further examined by an independent Oil analysis company.

Save your money, save the wasted oil, and save yourself some time. The only thing you gain by changing the oil now is a lighter pocket and knowing you helped the economy by spending unnecessary money.

3K intervals is "sooooo" 40 years ago. listen to the people who know engines & oil. Honda & blackstone.

2010 base model.
10 months, 8110 miles, 20% on MM.
Replaced with a Honda filter and Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20.

 

For my previous car, I had the oil tested by Blackstone Labs at each oil change. This allowed me to find a good change interval. I found that with my driving routine I could easily go 12 months or more between changes.

I'm going to make that my interval. Since I change it myself, it's most convenient to do it in the summer, anyway. (Damn snow or rain for nine months.)

 

I will be waiting until the monitor gets to 15% on the factory fill.

The break-in section of the owners manual specifically states to
not change the factory fill before it is time.

 

The dealer told me not to even think about it < 4,000 miles.

when dealers are selling these oil change for life plans... they arent going to encourage you to do an oil change at 3k. Id be seeing them 6 times a year~

more often is always going to be better than less often, except for that first fill. I think I made the mistake of switching to synth in my TypeR at 500... it drank oil like mad at 20k. (but it was driven hard)

 

My dealer provided free roadside assistance with the car, and renews it if you bring it in at 120 days. The sticker also said 4000 miles, but when I brought it in at 4000, the oil life still said 60%, and the the service rep said to wait until the date on the sticker and ignore the mileage unless the MM said 15%. At the 120-day mark, I was up to 6400 miles and still had 40% on the MM... but I had it changed (Mobil 1 5W-20) and the filter replaced.

FWIW, while I don't exactly baby the engine, I avoid lots of jackrabbit starts, more to save on gas than anything else. I still like to step on it when merging onto the expressway, though. My driving is roughly 50/50 highway/suburban, with occasional city driving thrown in for good measure.

 

I'll be doing my first oil (and filter) change at just south of 8k miles.

Well, I kept factory fill in as recommended until the Maintenance Minder was below 15%. 1st Oil Change, stayed with standard Honda Oil. Just had 2nd Oil Change, switched to full synthetic.

My logic? I do think there are advantages to running synthetic. Debate all you want. But also, with the maintenance minder, typically having me keep the oil in the vehicle much longer than I used to when I went by mileage or time, I feel better with synthetic.

If the maintenance minder has me go 6000+ miles on synthetic, I feel much better than pushing 7000 on Dino...

But admittedly, it's all just to make me feel better....but 20, 30 40 bucks for a little placebo peace of mind? It's worth it to me...

 

I envy all of your oil change intervals... I'll soon be doing my "second" oil change around 6k. I'm 5.6k at 30% oil life.

 

and before anyone freaks out... it's just the nature of my work that's influencing the oil life and not the way I drive

 

Planning on first oil change at 10,000-12,000 miles which is about when the meter should reach 0%.

 

Which means you'll be at about 1500-2000 miles past the recommended point listed in the owner's manual.

10-12K miles is when I estimate the meter should reach 0%. It'll be fine.

 

I have 2650 on the clock and oil life meter at 80%. Salesman did say not to change oil out the before the mm comes on for the first oil change. (as others have stated) My first oil change is free at the dealer so I will let them do that one and then start doing my own...very easy on this car, almost as easy as the Ecotec was in my HHR.

I put on close to 25k-30K a year so I'' be doing 3 or 4 changes a year probably

 

That's about where I'm heading as well. Although I'll probably take it for the first oil change shortly after the light comes on at 15%. So probably around 10k.
