Mp3 question

Hey everyone. New member with an 09 Sport (no navi) and sorry if this question has been asked over and over. I spent some time searching but never saw my exact question (at least in recent threads).

I can't seem to get the aux/in cable working right with my cheapo mp3 player. I usually use my phone for mp3s but tried using my wife's little 2 gb Phillips that she cast off after upgrading to an ipod (then iPhone).

I get the "USB not Supported" message that I've seen others mention here. But I really don't know where I need to go from there. Anyone?

you might be SOL on that...the manual says it won't support some MP3s but it doesnt give an alternative or a 'fix'.

Here's a few MPG threads

Thanks for the insight. Eh, no biggie. It's just a cheapo mp3 player. I've always got my XM I can put in. I'm not any kind of audio junkie by any means. I may just try the flash drive thing.

Thanks for the mpg links. I found the EcoFit section just after I posted!

i think you'd just have to use the aux input to play it. the usb mainly supports the ipod i think.

Just get an Male to Male cable from headphone jack to Aux in on front of radio. Works well, but will not controll MP3 output.

Weird my Sandisk works fine I will try my son's cheap RCA tonight. I just plug it in and push Aux button.

as far as i know, anything with a headphone jack should play over the aux. something isn't right if it's not playing.

Yeah, I'd seen at least one person who said they had to try to connect 2-3 times before getting their player to work. Maybe that's all I need to do? It threw me off when it said "USB." I'm yelling "I'm not connecting anything to USB!"

Any portable player SHOULD work through the 1/8 input jack, because it's just an analog signal from the headphone jack at that point. My Nokia N810 works fine through the jack. I haven't tried it through the USB port. I went to WalMart and bought a 8Gb flash drive, then used my computer to load 120 of my favorite albums. It works great and only cost $20.
