Why do people really try to race fits???
i understand what you guys mean, i have a stock galant that handles like a slightly sporty standard family sedan and compared to the Fit i test drove, it handles like a freight train, when on entrance ramps i get decimated by cars with C/O set-ups...(although one of the two guys had a turbo, which may have helped the corner exit hmm)
haha to one of the comments above my fiance called my car Bertha. I was like no fit should have a name that bad,
mustangs, lancers, pontiacs, and a bunch of crappy cars try to race. I think people are just looking for someone to race. Even trucks!! ;/

No one can say that you are inconsistent with identical times on two runs. That hardly ever happen, does it?
a corvette raced me on a straightaway, i wasnt even stepping on it really hard, and i was like.. "what the?" ... BLAH! lol, it was early morning in NYC.
when we stopped on the light, the road next merges to one lane because it'll go through central park.... i used my NYC driving skills,... *looks closely to the cross roads sign,, it turned yellow... and then ..... BAM! beat him to the green on our lane!
he was forced to yield and when i saw that, I WENT SLOWWWWW!!!!! lol.... that's what you get from racing a FIT EARLY IN THE MORNING!
When we came out of the park, i took a pic of that silly car...

I'm begining to think people are jealous/envious of our Fits and out of their frustration want to race...

I pull up to a red light on a 2 lane (1 way) street at which a real nice Lex IS350 had stopped right in the middle of the 2 lanes... Since our Fit is so small I fit on the right side... I swear I saw the guy's face turn red... I'm guessing he got mad that I fit or even tried to fit, or I was so close to his precious car....
anyway I indicated that there is 2 lanes, and took off when the light turned green.... I'm sure he was still seeing red cause he didn't even realize the light turned green...

Texas Coyote is nailing it.
I am sure there are people out there that just want to drag race, and they are car people. However, many people out there probably don't know a Fit from an Aveo, but when they see a small car, the feel compelled to "blow it away" because somewhere deep down inside, they know their car stinks (whatever it is), and they constantly feel the need to justify their purchase to themselves to soothe their insecurities.
Personally, I don't get it. I am a car guy, and I enjoy most cars.
The one time I can really say this happened to me was at a traffic light, and a middle aged man driving a silver Monte Carlo SS (2000-2005) pulls up beside me.
You know, this thing:

The light turns green, and he takes off. I didn't try to race, but the windows were down and I yelled to the driver that he better go fast. What does he do? He proceeds to drive a couple under the speed limit.
Why did you bother pal? Did you buy your ugly abomination of a Monte because Dale, Dale Jr. or Jeff drive one? Do those 200 horses pulling almost 4000 lbs really make you feel like a young man again? And if you are going to putt along, why pass any car, no matter what it is?
Some people are just not with it.

I had an 08 impala SS for a couple years. Had some custom bassani exhaust put on it. That car was one groovy grocery getter, and anyone who wants to say theyre a slow pig... drive one
Most new cars seem to be pretty touchy on the throttle off the line. I think its that OPEC installed throttle body cam gear. So maybe they are just getting scared of the mad styling hues of the Fit and reacting with a foot twitch and over gassing at the light.
I'll race people to the speed limit, but since I normally drive like that... I wouldnt really classify it as a race. Im really racing the next 4 red lights Im gonig to hit if I dont get around that buick in front of them.

This morning, I was leaving a light, and then noticed the fellow next to me in an older g35 sedan wanted to go, so we did. From 10-50 mph it was dead even, then he braked hard for a turn. The gearing makes it pretty strong in that range. The intake felt like it was contributing a bit in the cool morning air too. The manual fit surprises yet again.
Well, I'm glad other people are experiencing this too. I had two guys come up to me at a light recently (separately of course). One in a new BMW 3 series and the other in an EVO, and both wanting to race.
I'm 47, in the right lane and I look over at both of them like WTF? I'm thinking, "Why don't you tuff guys come back when I have my 600rr?" I just drove away.
I won't street race in any of my vehicles, but I've got to tell you, I was on my CBR a few weeks ago on a quiet 45mph side road with no other cars, when this new Nissan GTR came up and pulled the same routine, annoying me with his trophy girl friend in the passenger seat. I just don't get these people.
I'm ashamed to say I didn't ignore him that day and I know it was stupid. It was over in a few car lengths and he was a dot in the rear view mirror. Hope his girlfriend enjoyed the show. He wasn't laughing anymore when he passed me. I just waved at him.

Had something like this happen to me tonight. Just chillin' listening to music and a dude in a Charger pulled up and started to rev his engine. Of course tonight it was just messing around and we were cuttin up at the light and talkin. Light turned green and we both jumped on it a little bit, I went through first hard and then shifted into second and let off. Apparently the little punk behind me thought we were being for real and proceeded to spin his tires, loose control of his vehicle, and then take out 6 of these plastic things that they put on the road here to keep people from crossing solid white lines. It was ridiculous. Me and the Charger both looked at each other like "Wtf?" and then put a nice distance between us and the idiot.
But yeah people do want to race the fit a lot. I've had civics, scion tc's, ford fusions, and even a few Toyota's. It's not even worth it.

That is what numerous people that I watch shrink away to a speck in my rear view mirror must of thought.... I really need to thank Oscar Jackson for building such a great trouble free kit.
Happens to me on my motorcycle sometimes. But then, outrunning most anything on a sport bike, or even a reasonably sporty bike, is pretty effortless. 70 hp ain't much, but with 440 lbs of bike and 180 lbs of me, it'll scoot pretty well.
Never happened to me in the Fit, nor in my Scion*. Both are slow-mobiles, so I can't imagine anyone bragging about how they whooped up on one. Not like a V6 Mustang where they can conveniently mistake it for a GT or BOSS 302 and have a good story to tell.

I'm seriously considering trading my bike for a dual sport with considerably less power. Hitting 60 in under 4 seconds is exciting the first dozen times, but soon wears off. I keep thinking I'd rather have something that can go play on dirt roads as well.
