Adding aftermarket Keyless - seems a bit oscure

I've read many many posts (maybe I missed "the one") - I'm trying to add keyless to a base model Fit (2009). It has power locks, but did not come Keyless.

It seems there are a few ways to do this - I bought a $40 local kit - but can find little mention here on others connecting such a thing (other than a reference to a connector above the gas pedal - and picture).

If you've done this - or have a reference to a post - or can help with what I am searching that is missing, please let me know.

Also, I'd consider doing the "Honda" version - which seems to cost more. Can I just buy a key (transponder), and program it?

I am sure this has been posted 1000 times - just can't find the direct links.......... I bought some random "Bulldog Security" keyless module. It has transmitters, receiver, and lots of wires. \

I don't mind pulling a door panel/dash panel - just looking for any friendly advise....

TIA!!

Rolf

You don't need to add anything to the base. Just buy a keyless entry key, get it cut and programmed (the immobilizer) and you're good to go without any modifications to the car. You can also buy the keyless entry, program the remote yourself and cut off the key portion without the additional cost of having to get the key cut and the immobilizer programmed.

Red: Thank you for the quick reply. It seems there are some Fits that need a keyless module thing - but guess the newer ones don't.

Any idea of good deals for cutting and programming (otherwise, I'd cut off the end).

I know for my new Prius, they want like $100 to just cut the stupid key...

I can say for certain that USDM 2010 models don't need any module added as I've added 3 to other base fits myself. I don't have any practical experience with the 2009 but as far as I know the 2009 and 2010 models are identical. Unfortunatly i can't guide you to any deals in CA or online. My local Honda dealer cut and programmed two keys for $50 though.

There's a large thread on doing this...someplace. I can't find it.

There are deals if you shop around. I think my keyless entry key was about $40. There are several dealers who offer them - College Hills and Bernardi are two of them, for example. You just order a blank spare key for a Fit Sport. Perhaps your local Honda dealer stocks them also.

Then there are steps you need to take in order to get the keyless entry to work. You sit in the car and program it yourself and then you can use the keyless entry key as a fob - or not. Several people have cut the key end off and just used it that way. I believe the video on how to do the programming is on Youtube. It takes about 5 minutes.

In order for the key to actually work in the ignition the key has to be cut and matched with the immobiliser in the car. I think this has to be done at a dealer.

I paid for my programming since a long time had passed between my buying the car and figuring out keyless would work in it. I now have a working ignition key with a programmed immobiliser as my main key for less than $100.
