Cost to install after-market alarm and keyless entry

I'm looking into purchasing a 2010 Base that has an after-market security alarm and keyless entry and I'm wondering what the approximate cost of adding those things to a Fit would be. (I am in negotiations with a couple different dealerships so knowing the value of that would be useful!)

I don't know about an alarm but the car has the electronics for keyless entry, you just need a key with the electronics. Info on programming the car to match the key is in the owner's manual. You can buy the key for under $50. The key part would have to be cut to match the door and ignition locks, or you can just use the electronic part for keyless entry, and your original key to start the car.

I have read a bunch of the forum posts about this and just wanted to make sure of one thing before I buy one of these keys.

I just bought a 2009 Honda Fit Base used. The car does have automatic locks but did not come with keyless entry. Should I assume that the proper transmitter to receive and work with the OEM keyless system is installed?

Again my question is I know I can buy the Keyless OEM part but how can I know that the receiver for the transmitter inside the keyless oem part is installed in the car.

Thanks

The keyless receiver is part of the Base 09 fit from the factory. I added remote entry keys to mine after purchase and didn't change any hardware on the car.

There is a procedure for programming the remote entry without going to Honda, but the keys still have to be set up for security (and cut) to work in the ignition.

Be wary of charges: Honda will charge extra for the service on a Base Fit just because. You're better off getting a blank remote entry key, taking it in and asking them to cut and program it for you. This service should be around $60. Honda service depts are ripping people off for $200-300 for the key and programming.

Here's a complete thread on it (CFL Honda was offering FitFreakers a break on shipping, but their site doesn't seem to be there anymore).

College Hills Honda also has good information on their site including a shout-out to FF in this youtube DIY:

Thanks for your quick response.

Yeah I was reading that thread and I watched the video that College Hills Honda put up which was great.

I just hadn't seen anything about the hardware for the receiver being in the car.

The Fit I bought used is a "very" Base model. No cruise control, no usb for car audio, no map lights... it does however have automatic locks... so just wanted to check in on the hardware for the keyless being in the car before I bought that 40$ key.. I think I might just go the route of programming it myself and then cutting off the key and using it as a fob.

Thanks again!

you can also add USB and maplights. Cruise control is problematic.
