If you want to have it work as a key you'll have to have it cut and programmed (security code) by the dealer or a locksmith (dealer probably). If you just want to have it work as remote entry and use another key in the ignition, then there are details farther up about how to set it up.

The dealer charge is anything from zero to $100 so... negotiate.

I emailed the service director at my dealership and told him that my salesguy failed to include keyless entry in my delivery (true) due to the craziness of the last day of cash for clunkers, that I had already bought two keys from their parts counter (lie), and that I'd seen that other service departments are cutting and programming keys for free on this site. He sent me an email back saying no problem, just bring this email in and we'll do it. Long story shot, I got mine cut and programmed for free simply by asking the service director. Get on it.

My butt's still tingly from paying $200 for a key including programming and cutting. At least I didn't pay their asking price of $300. What a crock. My jaw dropped when I picked it up and they only brought out one key (thought for that price it'd be more).

Sport key from CFL, -no delivery charges?

A while back I ordered a keyless fob from CFL Honda for my 2010 AT base Silver Fit, and it works just fine, no complaints at all there... (Even tho they did add on delivery charges, but I'm guessing that maybe it was becasue of it being a fob, and not a key?)

Now I'd like to order a complete 2010 Fit Sport key for my lady, so I can cut the bottom off and save the top part for her for the keyless entry buttons.
CFL has of course mentioned here that they won't charge S&H for this, but does anyone know how I go about ordering one (I think at $34?) from the CFL site w/o getting charged the S&H ?

Also, I believe that when I program this new key in the car I might also have to again reprogram the fob I already have at the same time, along with it, is that right?

Thanks,

I am so happy to hear that the keyless entry works on the 2010. I tell you, I can't believe how hard it is to adjust to not having remote entry, LOL. Boy am I spoiled!

My key comes via ups on the 21st. Early Christmas present......

I will give the dealer a try about cutting and programming... but truly, even if I cut the metal off and use it as a fob, I will be very pleased.

Thank You! Unfortunately some of these larger online sites have gotten so big they are understaffed to help people. We are not trying to take over the world with Honda parts so I can handle every customer on a day to day basis. If anyone needs anything contact me, if I dont have an answer I can talk to technicians..or call Honda directly.

PM Replied with your coupon code Chazzlee!

Thanks,
Dan@CFLHonda

Hey Rachel! I'm in Providence. I also have a '10...in Storm Silver.
How did you make out with cutting and immobiliser programming? I ordered my blank from College Hills today, and I'm torn about cutting off the blank (I would *like* the key to work in the ignition).

One dealer quoted me $65 today for cutting and programming.

They also did not seem happy that I was asking about bringing it after purchasing it in another place. When I call another dealer, I plan on saying "I said I wanted an extra key and this is what they gave me..."

Like someone else said, this is a question of whether they want SOME money or NO money.

$65 for cutting and programming seems reasonable (that's about half what I paid. ouch). Maybe if you got your wife/girlfriend to sweet talk them (it's a gift and I can't afford that!!! sniff). I don't think it would have the same effect if you tried.

I just got quoted $51 in Seattle for key cutting and immobilizer matching/programming for two keys. They didn't seem bothered that I already had the blanks. $51 for clicking a few buttons is plenty of profit for them anyway.

I called Majestic Honda in West Warwick and they will do it for $55. Seems like a better deal, LOL. I was on the fence about spending the money (Since I already paid $50 with shipping for the key) but you know what? I might just do it, since I am going to own this car for awhile and it would be so much nicer to have it all in one.

We should have a mini rally, LOL. RI Fit Freaks!

PS: Did you talk to Metro? They were freaked out when I told them that the base model had keyless remote. I explained that they key already unlocked my car and they were quite surprised.

Yup, I talked to Metro. That's where I bought it.

Anyway, they sounded almost suspicious as to how I got ahold of a blank OEM key. Since they didn't have the part in stock, I said "Oh, if I'm out and about maybe I'll stop in at another dealer and pick one up that you can use."

I felt like once they figured out that buying a sport key gives you basic keyless entry they would do something to make it more difficult.

As for sweet-talking them, I dunno how much luck my wife would have. Two of the three service advisors are women although I guess you never know, lol.

Anyway, all in all it is still a savings over buying keyless as a dealer installed "option".

Yeah, they must have gotten curious when they received 2 calls in a week about this. I am stunned that Honda dealers don't spend any time on the forums, frankly.

Wouldn't it be cool if a dealer saw this as an opportunity rather than a threat? They could stock up on the blank keys and offer this to their customers as an unadvertised special. It would definitely set them apart from the other dealers and would really give someone a reason to choose them over the competition.

But, alas, I think that will not be the case here.

Happy New Year, all!

There are some dealers that check out the forums like CFL Honda. Unfortunately not close by. Still, places like College Hills even post videos on how to install accessories and are the ones that posted the vid on how to make the buttons on the key work. That was before I'd even found this forum!
I was surprised...I traded in a Volvo for my Fit, and a Volvo dealer wouldn't post a helpful comment or video like that (at least the ones around here anyway) if his/her life depended on it.
Anyway, I get my key in a couple of days and I'll be really excited to not have to use the actual door locks. What with the weather we've been having I'd forgotten what a joy potentially frozen lock cylinders are.

I just got the Fit Base AT on 12/30/09. There are couple of things I wanted to have for the Base, one being the side mirror to be painted with body color and the other being the keyless entry. To have the side mirror painted will be costly and just cosmetic. Fortunately, I found this forum and specifically this thread regarding the keyless entry solution. This is so great. After reading all 7 pages of posts, I think I'm going to get the Fob. For roughly $30, it is one of the most bang-for-the-bucks improvement ever.

Dan, I PM'ed you and trying to see if CflHonda are still offering free shipping for the Fob. Please let me know when you have a chance. Thanks!

Chazzlee,
It will show being charged. I can promise you that if you right in the comment field you are from fitfreak.net you will not get charged the shipping charges.

Thanks,

Hi Dan

Wasn't me who posted this last question...
But for all you others, I did indeed write in the comments section of my CFL order that Dan of CFLHonda stated no shipping charges on keys (or fobs) because I was on the Fit Freak forum, and I did indeed not get charged the $9.50 shipping amount and only the $2.00 handling fee remained...
Thanks Dan...
