I guess just doing the inside fob of the key is functional but looks kind of cheap. My solution was by no means high end and classy, but I think it was worth the extra $8.00.

Yep the key makes a nice Fob. My salesman was going to have my key cut for me for $20 but when I saw the size of it I decided to just make it a Fob.

Keys are available really cheap on ebay. I got a brand new one in the package for $21 shipped.

Just today I made my "fob" using the instructions from this thread. Works great, and I'm thrilled to have keyless entry.

Now...if someone would just post an easy way to get cruise control on my 2009 base Fit, I'd REALLY be a happy camper.

^^^

Got a PM from Killer Goldfish asking for more details and suggesting that others might also be interested. So.....

I ordered a blank key from College Hills Honda. (I felt more comfortable with the idea of cutting the key off than drilling a hole through the body of a fob.) $40.37 plus shipping and sales tax (I'm an Ohio resident). I ordered it online Sunday night and it was delivered today (Tuesday). Took about 30 seconds to program using the instructions on the first page of this thread. Works perfectly.

I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for an easy cruise control fix for my base Fit.

While cruise control would be nice once in a while, I would rarely use it much like my last car. If I could get it cheap, that would be cool. But I know it will not be cheap so I am not even going to bother looking it up.

well, as another poster said, bernardi had the fobs back ordered, so its been 10 days since my order and they have not yet arrived. i dont think i will be doing business with bernardi again. i order on a fri night 2am, so that is technically sat. they then email me the next fri almost a week later to say, sorry but we are out of this part. wow, i was waiting all week for it to arrive. guess they know if i knew before hand they did not have it in stock, i would bought it somewhere else. almost bait and switch. anyway, i can wait a few days.

glad its working out for you all.

well it arrived. programmed both easily. since i had just the fobs, and no drill, i did a velcro job to the key. im sure some of you are going to bash me for this, but i like it, and its unique.

I can easily remove it and velcro it to something other then the key, so I have many options

I don't think so. The trunk on the Fit is considered as another door to the car. It locks and unlocks with the rest of the doors and does not have any device to pop it up part way like a standard trunk.

Its all about being unique..glad it worked. I too am waiting from my shipment from Bernardi. I called to see what was taking so long and spoke to Eric who explained w/over 350k parts, it would be very hard to indicate at the time of check-out what is and isn't in stock..hmm..

Anyway..I should get them in a day or two. I am psyched to hear that programming them worked out for you.

So here is the breakdown for the two FOBs i purchased from Bernardi:
2-72147-SWA-A01 Honda MODULE ASSY., KEYLESS(part#72147-SWA-A01)
Unshipped$22.79

SubTotal:$45.58

Shipping Total:$9.84

Grand Total: $55.42
Followed the simple video instruction from CH on youtube and presto..no more key in door to unlock..and to think the dealer wanted close to $500..I chose to drill holes in the corner like IGorp did, and had some key rings laying around.

when i look at the latch when the hatch is open i think i see a part that would look like it could take a cable that when pulled the hatch would "pop" open a little, check it out

interesting.

ok i will let you all know if the key fob cover, fits, no pun intended

if it does then that might be a good option for some people to get a low cost, customized color keyless entry fob. 55 for 2 fobs , or 22.50 a piece , and 9 shipping , then 6.99 for each cover, free shipping included. I think a bunch of you would like a certain color? anyway, we seem to have many options

I have a feeling that is not going to fit. It appears that those covers are made for the entire key. Since you only have the internal fob of the key and not the key itself, the cover is going to be too big. Hopefully I am wrong but it is looking that way from the pictures.
