Question A Couple of Questions About Keyless Entry

The first is mostly directed towards robert@cflhonda.com and Chazzlee since I know they have access to both:

1) Is there a quality difference in the casing for the keyed remote and the keyless button fob. Is one built more rugged than the other? Or is the plastic casing basically the same? Also, how much smaller is the keyless fob, than the keyed remote with the key removed?

2) If I only purchase one fob now, can I add a second one later just by doing the programming steps again and reprogramming both keys? Or I I lose the first fob, can I just purchase another and reprogram? I'm assuming there is no limit to how many times you can run the keyless entry programming. Is that right?

Thanks

Uhm, the keyless fob is just the internals of the key's electronics. As such it is as you might expect for such internals. Some people have gotten or made cases for the exteriors of them, and some have just drilled into them, and attached them to their keychain. Personally, I would recommend some sort of case, but I tend to be hard on things.

It's been said that you can have only two keyless remote keys I'm assuming this is some limitation on having a certain number of remote-entry fobs, and not a limit on the number of keys you can have. (My dealership mistakenly told me that I could have only two keys which isn't true as far as I know, but I believe was a misunderstanding since it had something to do with the button-key limit. I don't remember where I found this information however.)

Has anyone successfully done this on a 2010 fit base? I have a sport key and it isn't syncing when following the directions on page 1.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The factory "alarm" button is still down by my knee - any chance this is interfering?

Yes. My Fit is a 2010, and I successfully did this. I used the video posted on CollegeHillsHonda's site that links out to Youtube. You actually watch the guy program a key himself.

You may either be inadvertantly doing a step differently or that "factory alarm" button may actually be the culprit...

I don't have a "factory alarm button" in my car. However, other posters have taken a photo of something under the dash that was some sort of alarm system that is activated by the dealer if you pay extra for that.

Otherwise, my keyless works perfectly for me (not having any buttons under the dash). It actually worked as a keyless entry/exit before the key was cut, but now the immobiliser is synced to the key and (obviously) it works in the ignition.

Key point: the base model doesn't have a "factory" alarm. The only alarm that you might find in a base model is one added by the dealership. If they told you it was a factory alarm, or you paid extra for it, or anything.. they lied to you.

One thing I would say is that you may need to try a couple of times. I know when I did it on my base model (2009), it took me more than one try to get it right.

Right that's why "factory alarm" was in quotes. Whatever Karr crap they install half assed and don't bother removing when I don't want to pay extra for it...

I've tried it a bunch of times now - I've installed viper and dei products in the past, I know I'm following the instructions properly.

I saw some mention of the key possibly being in some kind of locked mode - and to hold both buttons down until a light flashes twice - but I never see the light flash.

Has anyone successfully paired this with the dealership aftermarket product installed but not active? I'll try another honda key and see if I can get it to work and then I guess I'll know if it's my remote or the car.

Thanks! Got my key and it works great! Now I have to decide whether let them charge me $50 to "program" the key or cut it into a FOB.

Thanks Again!

Don't pay the crooks at your dealership

I did this last week on my new 2010 base model. I took the key apart and used a hot needle to poke a hole through the "lip" piece of the remote. I removed the panic button, since it's more raised without the key and I didn't want to press it in my pocket. Then I made a small lanyard out of fishing line and attached it to my keys. What I like about this way is it's completely non-destructive - if one day I decide I really want my remote to be a key, I can put it all back together and get it cut and programmed. (The other thing in the picture is a tiny USB flash drive.)

Programming the remote was very easy - see this video:

I went to my local Honda dealer to have the remote keyless entry system done. I told them I wanted a sport replacement key for the base and to cut off the key part and grind it smooth close to the base to make a fob. They looked at me as if I were nuts and said it would not work. The service advisor programed the fob part and it work like a top and went out to service dept. and ground the key like I wanted. They were so impressed with the info I told them that they sold me the unit for $40 and no charge for anything they did. So now I have a remote control fob for my 2010 Fit base for $40 vs the original quote of $240. I already have 2 new keys and didn't want to carry a big ass key in my pocket. The parts manager got involved and said he will never buy the base accessary kit anymore but the sport replacement key. Thanks people for all the help I got from the posts on the subject. I also was able to program my base M/T fit to open all doors when I turn the car off. This site is a wealth of information.

Thanks CFLHonda! Got the FOB (72147SWAA01) for just $23 total.

Had some initial trouble programming it to the car, but finally got it to work my 5th try.
Some things to note when trying:
- make sure the FOB's lights go on when you push the buttons, if they don't then you might have to press one button (or both) for a few seconds to 'activate' the FOB.
- keep the timing of the steps consistent, I think this is where I was doing it wrong.
So I just simply counted to 3 after every step (turn on key, click lock, turn off key).

Like user @Cruzin_Fit, I too had the "factory or dealer alarm" near my left knee, but that won't prevent you from getting this work. Thanks everyone!

I guess the party's over. not only did clfhonda charged me shipping, the postman wanted 61 cents postage due. Thanks alot clfhonda! glad I didn't order anything bigger than 2 keys. Buyer beware!!!

I have to correct the record. I went over my cc records and my account was credited for the shipping charges the next day. SO,I stand corrected and take back the buyer beware statement. I would do business with cflhonda again. They are a standup operation.

Just bought a 2010 Honda Fit Base M/T. Honda dealer told me it would be $690 to get me keyless entry. Also told me that a security system was required to have keyless entry at all. I did this, and for $52 (after shipping) of the fob and about 2 minutes of my time I now have keyless on my base model Fit! I found that doing the Key On, Press Lock, Key Off extremely quickly worked best. Only took about 4 cycles and I heard the click. I was impressed that the horn actually gives you lock confirmation when you press the button twice. Also, the Panic Button is totally working as well. I ain't gettin' mugged, shoooooes.

I wonder if we can buy the 72147SWAA01 inner part of the fob ( costs 21.19 now at cfl), then buy a hard cover without the key ?

Does anyone sell that?

You can find a bunch of the hard covers on Ebay, lots of funky ones and I bet you can find a plain black one too.

CFLHonda

They deal with ALL HONDAS so between the guys they probably don't check here daily. I know they stay busy! The have some of the lowest prices online. You'd have to work @ a dealer to get the same pricing! (or have a hook up @ a dealer) Most dealers just laugh when you show them the site! "No way we can match that price. I can't even get it for that price!" Was said to me by a Dealer's parts manager. He of all things is a Fit Owner/Driver. I have bought multiple items from CFL. Great company and good people! Tell them you heard about them on Fit Freak!

Got mine done and working. Worked the first time. I ordered the internals from CFL, got it here in three days and then decided I wanted the rest of it because it didn't look right. Called one of the local dealers and had the case with the blank key shipped over night for $11. Now all I have to do is cut the blank off and figure out what to do to hide the silver metal so it looks completely OEM. I'm thinking a small bead of black silicone will work perfectly.
