2010 Honda Fit - Dead!
Map light has a mechanical switch. If you turn it on, it will stay on. Consider the alternative. You might have to stop at night in a place you'd rather not be to read a map or make a call and want to turn on the light while you kept the doors locked. Would you want the light to go off by itself after some interval? It's a compromise, I'm sure.
Of course I can see the car through the garage window—whoops. Left the map light on again.
Cheers.

BTW, my Fit sits stoically unprotected from the elements on a lane around the corner from the windows of my house, so I don't see that the map light is still on -- nor do I when I'm 3,000 miles away from airport parking while my Fit sits waiting patiently for my return. Oh, and meant to mention earlier: I'm going to check out the suggestion of an LED bulb, which might effectively solve my problem. If it does, let's suggest it to Honda!

No map light here so when I can't remember what I bought at the last stop to take in I check the seat once I open the door when the dome comes on.
