iPod Suddenly Unsupported
iPod Suddenly Unsupported
For the last two years I've been using an iPod Classic (6th generation) with my 2009 Honda Fit Sport successfully. On Monday, after driving with it working, I stopped to do some grocery shopping. After returning to my Sport and staring it up I noted that it took a long time to load and finally gave me the 'Unsupported Version' message. There were no changes to the operating system, I've always had it turned on and sitting in the glove box.
Since then I've swapped in a Shuffle which previously worked but now gives the same unsupported version error. I bought a new cable but it didn't make any difference either. The iPod works normally outside of the car and it also works with the Fit if I plug it in via the aux connection, I just lose the ease of controlling via the radio controls.
Other posts around the Internet infer this is a frequent problem with Honda automobiles. Other forums (including Apple's) suggest various combinations of having the iPod turned completely off and then plugging it in or turning it on and then plugging it in. I know that the Fit 'sees' the iPod because it knows when I unplug it.
Today I took it to the dealer and they are as mystified as am I, to the point of
having three different techs looking at it at the same time.
Sorry this post is so long but does anyone have a solution?

when was the last time you did a hard reboot of the ipods? (complete shut down, not sleep)
i was getting all kinds of gremlins with my ipod touches (2nd and 4th gen)... in both the Honda Fit, and before that, a Nissan Pathfinder with new HU (Alpine, which also made the HU for the Fit)... with the lastest firmware on the 4th gen... I haven't had any issues lately. Any that did pop up before, went away with a full reboot (shut down the car also).

I did not try another Fit, they don't have one at the moment (it's a really small dealership) but it's a great idea. The tech is suppose to call me if he can come up with anything because I'm about 30 miles away. I will try to disconnect the battery and see if that does anything.

I'll call the dealership and tell them to disregard any further. Again, thank you.
Hey folks, just wanted you all to know that I feel your pain, as my IPod quit connecting in the car about a week ago and I haven't been able to use it all week. However, I called that 1-888 tech support number that shows up in these threads, and the girl there walked me through resetting the stereo unit to the factory settings, and am happy to report that the IPod is now working again. I work on computer software bugs, and am very familiar with software going out into the weeds and hanging, I deal with those exact issues all the time, so this was no shock. Try calling tech support and see if you can get them to walk you through this, it was fairly lengthy and I'm afraid I'd steer you wrong if I tried to remember the whole ting, but it only takes about 10 minutes and it's over. You have to disconnect your IPod and phone from the unit first, but it does fix the problem, at least it did for me. Good luck.
