2012 Brightness Control

I'm confused

Owner's manual page 99, the right column.

"The brightness can be set differently for when the exterior lights are on, and when they are off."

What does that mean? When my headlights are on I can adjust the instrument panel brightness no problem. But when the headlights are off, turning the knob do nothing. The instrument panel stays lit at full brightness.

The sentence made me think I can adjust the brightness of the instrument panel during the daytime when I don't need the headlights. Unless I understood it wrong.

So when your lights are off, they are really bright. Now, when you turn your lights on, you can set them to dim. That would indeed be 2 different settings. The lights are set differently. It does not say that both lights on and off are independently adjustable, just that they can be set differently, which indeed they can

So basically you can only adjust brightness of the panel when headlights are on? And stuck with whatever brightness from factory setting when headlights are off?

Ummm, can you adjust your panel brightness when the headlight switch is in the off position?

This does seem to be the case, although the manual could have been worded better.
