2010 fit sport -- possible to remove carpets? Got rained on.

Hello everyone. I recently left my windows open during a thunderstorm. So, my car smells like moldey-mildewy-sewer. Not good. I tried vaccuming out the car, running a dehumidifier inside the car with the windows up, febreeze, and air fresheners. It still smells bad.

I was wondering if there was any way to remove the carpeting in the fit sport? Is it sewn into the car, or is it just stickied on with glue? I am thinking of removing the carpets and pressure-washing them to remove the smell.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes you can remove the carpet.

Like Wafulz said though, did you try shampooing it yet? Probably a hell of a lot easier. Even easier if you just pay someone to shampoo it.

Is there a specific kind of shampoo for cars? I've never actually heard of this before.

would shampoo hurt it? because in all honesty the "carpet" just feels like cardboard with animal shavings lightly glued into it.

You are doing rug/carpet shampoo.
Which is the same as home rug/carpet, except perhaps you use different accessories on your rug shampooer machine to get to it.
Cars are not somehow unique that they branched off to make some crazy different carpet.

If you don't have a rug shampooer, that's why you go to the fullservice carwash servcie who have paid the overhead for such a unit.

After you use CARPET shampoo, buy some bags of activated charcoal and place them under the seats or somewhere out of the way and it will absorb the smells and moisture.

I accidentally left a quart of milk in my car during the heat of summer and it got so hot that it spoiled and the plastic carton blew up! I don't drive my car often since I have a company vehicle that I bring home so DAYS went by before I noticed, so trust me.....they do work.

You can get the bags at Home Depot.
