Does it take long for dealers to get a specific color?
Does it take long for dealers to get a specific color?
Hi Everyone -
I'm not yet a Fit owner but will buy one this spring. I'm timing the purchase for when we move out of the city into the burbs.
In your experience, if you want a specific color that isn't on the lot did it take much time for the dealer to get a hold of it?
Of course the obvious response is 'ask the dealer' but I thought I'd tap the knowledge here first - also I'm putting off getting into contact with dealers until I really need to. No need to have them pester me with calls for 2-3 months.

Unfortunately there is no fixed answer on that. They go into the Honda inventory system and see what other dealers have what you want in stock and then arrange to get that vehicle transported to their dealership.
Nope! Not really. Well .. depends on what you mean by "long" .. as long as the color is available in the US it should be a few weeks or less.
No, the real question is $, as in how many the dealer wants to part you from. This will bear no relation to how much it costs them, but instead with how badly you want the color and how lazy the sales guy is (no one really wants to arrange shipment .. their peers make fun of them for not being able to con you into a different color).
That said, I got conned into thinking a blue fit would be in stock, and when it wasn't I got all sorts of angry. The sales guy was pretty patient with me and eventually I acknowledged his customer service skills and bought a white fit, and now I love it. So there you go

well if the color means so much.
I insisted on having a MR w/ MT and I paid the price of 9 months wait = build/strike at Honda/$2800 shipping only to have/delay Japan/delay @Vancover ship yard (due to strike) / and that was in 2006.

I wanted a taffy white base model in manual, which my dealer didnt have, but they went on a 250 mile trip to get it for me same day! so basically it all depends on how close one is and how willing to help your dealer is.
