2010 Fit A/C Clutch bearing failure

IS it common for the A/C clutch bearing to fail with under 90k miles on the engine? It hasn't seized yet but it's about to for sure. I verified it is indeed this bearing that is going. I have 88k miles on the engine now and it had started getting noisy about 10k miles ago. Seems premature that the AC compressor clutch bearing is failing before the cars 1st break job!!!

If under warranty, take it in ASAP

I have not seen one fail personally and yes under 90k does seem premature for a failure but it could happen.

I would advise you to replace as soon as possible to avoid damage to the compressor snout.

Yep not a good idea driving around like that. It could fail and cause more damage and mess up the inside of the system with cooling fluid.

All Fixed

I replaced the pulley and bearing today. I had to buy a used compressor to get the parts I needed. Replacing wasn't to difficult. I did have to use a gear puller, but that was the worst of it. The bearing was shot.

Good to see someone with the skills to DIY this kind of stuff. Now even so called "mechanics" would just replace the whole thing.

Can you provide more info as to the process for replacing? How difficult was access, etc. and how did you verify that the bearing was the issue?
