Daniel G.R. provides the following report:
Normally, this should be the time where one would expect Japanese rumor-mags to start getting things right about the Fit (including the sketches).
That's why I asked a Japanese friend to do some "rumor-hunting" for me, and he actually got something from Mag-X that looks interesting. The latest Mag-X has some rumors about the Fit. There is much written, but apart from saying how successful was the past generation Fit (it has sold almost 1 million cars in Japan), the important points are the highlighted ones.
- It will be introduced in Japan in October 2007 (Honda's own material says "Autumn 07").
- Both the 1.3L and 1.5L VTEC engines. They don't say anything about the 1.5L (although it's been widely rumored to be some kind of R15), but they say the 1.3L would make 100Hp and have similar or better fuel economy than the current 1.3L i-DSi.
- The designer in charge is the same one that executed the acclaimed Euro Civic hatch (if it's the same person I met in Geneva05 his name is Mr Toshiyuki Okumoto, but it's not mentioned in the article), so expectations are very high.
- There is no significant changes in size, but it's a bit longer and wider: 3.900 x 1.690m (current model is 3.845 x 1.675m). Of course, it as been developed within the centre-tank platform.
- It will be offered with a "sky-roof" (this is already available in current EuroCivic).
Please note that this information is for Japanese Fit. It is highly likely that markets like Europe will have a very similar model (including the sky-roof), but as always, it won't be the case world-wide. I honestly don't think that either the 1.3L engine or the glass-roof will make it to the US, no matter when it arrives there and in what shape.
JDM Accord-name speculation.
They have a lot of pictures of the NA Accord and lot of discussions as well. I don't think that there was anything interesting on it, apart them saying that Fukui didn't like having two different cars called Accord in the world, and that they were considering renaming the Euro/JP version to something different (maybe still Accord but with some subtitle).

I truly hope that they bring int he sky roof, I had a JDM CRX with the glasstop and it was awesome to look up at night.
maybe we will get lucky and they will do something really stupid that ticks everybody off on the new model (you know, like how Toyota stuck the dash in the middle of the car instead of in front of the driver... where it belongs!) and then price it really really high
That would drive the resale value of our current Fits through the roof!
lol... wishful thinking. Knowing our luck it will have ten times the standard options, look more fantastic and sell for less making our 07 cars the ugly expensive duckling
This is like the surprise retroactive Honda Canada rebate & the 7 days I missed it by all over again.
Yes Honda Canada I am still pissed!!!

Dunno after looking at the interior movies of that Aria, I'm underwhelmed, the sedan doesn't look that great IMO, we'll have to see if they release a hatch and if so what it looks like.
Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and new to the Forums too. I had a funny feeling this was going to happen. I read in a local car magazine that they were expecting a new model to come out next year. And judging by the radical change and they made to the Civic, the new Jazz is probably going to blow the old one away. Damn, my Jazz is only a month old.

A hatch will be released? Yes, the next-gen Fit will come out this fall in Japan, but I think you got this other way around. The Aria is the sedan version of the Fit, so the new Fit has to first come out before the current Aria will be changed. As I said above, the Aria that this link shows is not a new design at all. In other words, the Aria is not an advance design on which the Fit will be based, but rather, the new Area, when it comes out, will be based on the new Fit that is coming out in October this year (in Japan, that is).

The switchover to the next-gen Fit for North America should happen for the model year 2009.

Yeah honestly I love my '07. There are minor things I wish would have been done, but overall its great. I wouldn't change the styling at all. Thats not to say I might not buy another one later but I'm happy with what I have now. Even if they released a huge redesign tomorrow I'd still be happy.
Come on I can't believe that anyone truly cares If the fit is changed. Enjoy the one you own if you are so shallow that you must follow each and every fit change (I TRULY FEEL SORRY FOR YOU). My 2007 Honda Sport Fit is a cool looking car, and I don't give a Damn what they do to it once a Classic always a Classic. A lot of times car companys screw up on trying to make a model better.
Hey dont get me wrong, I love my car unconditionally!! If i wash it anymore times, im sure im going to start taking the paint off!!! Compared to all the other cars in its class (and even some above it) it kicks ass!!! As soon as i get in, ive got a permanent smile on my face. I just cant help feeling bad for the people who bought the old civic hatch and a year later watched the new Type R get unleashed onto the roads. I know i would have been upset.
Its weird how you guys get different models to us. I had the option of a sunroof with my Jazz but i didnt take it. Im not too bothered about a sunroof. When you live in a country like South Africa, you are more worried about smash 'n grab protection on your windows, so i took that as an extras option. Sad isnt it?
Actually the picture looks more like an Odyssey grill than anything. http://automobiles.honda.com/images/...ry/gal_lg1.jpg
I don't want my fit looking MORE like an Odyssey though!
