Honda to recall 1,038 Fit vehicles in US - Automotive Business Review

Japanese automaker Honda Motor's US-based subsidiary American Honda Motor is set to recall 1,038 units of its Fit vehicles in the US over a defect in the vehicles' front driveshaft.

The recall, which is expected to start in mid-June 2014, affects 2013 model-year Honda Fit vehicles.

Some right drive shafts in the vehicle were not properly processed during a heat treatment process that resulted in weaker driveshaft than intended.

The weak driveshaft may be more likely to fail due to the torque applied when the vehicle is accelerating from a stop, the company said.

Broken right driveshaft will reduce the vehicle's ability to move under its own power leading to accidents and crash.

The automaker has claimed to be unaware of any crashes or injuries related to this issue, which was discovered through a warranty claim review process.

Under the recall, the company plans to inspect and replace the right driveshaft if needed.
