2012 Base model: tailgate will not lock either with fob or manually (from driver's side switches). There is no key port in the tailgate.

The open/close sensor in the tailgate apparently works because the alarm will sound if I lift the tailgate and the door open indicator lights up in the instrument cluster.

Any ideas on how to diagnose this issue? Many thanks in advance.

 

I think due to rusting in the handle, my hatch HANDLE doesn't always release back to the correct position.

Check to see if the handle moves freely... and try pushing it to where it should be and then see if the hatch stays closed/locked.

 

Why even worry about it on a '12? It's still under warranty so take it back to the dealership.

 

it could be out of warranty if driven out of the mileage limit (as I did in 2011, barely 15 months after buying my 2010 Fit).
