Update
This is what I was running 16x7 et40, 205/50-16 and no rubbing on a 2" front, 1.75" back drop with Megan c/o and -2 camber front, -1.7 camber rear.
This is what I am running now 17x7 et42, 205/45-17 and still no rubbing, I am actually going to be getting some spacers for the front and back to get a more flush look.
So I could have gone with a 40 offset with no rubbing, I will have more pics when I put on my spacers.

what did you use to get camber on the rear?

Great info in the thread. Thanks to all the contributors!
I'm sure I'll be okay, but I'll be installing T1R S-coils this week and I have 17x7 +42 offset Enkeis on 205/45/17's. Looking at a few setups here and the offset looks like it will be okay, but don't know if my sidewall is a bit high. Looking to go to a 40 sidewall next season, but I don't need tires yet.
Any input would be appreciated.

You say rub, he says no rub. I understand offset is 1mm less but that should not make the difference in rubbing. Any know why this is??

Don't believe the 215/40x17on 43 mm offset without mods.
The tire centerline moves outward 10 mm (53-43)and the tire width increases by 15 mm (215/2-185/2)from centerline. Thats an inch. The tire diameter is 23.77" compared to 24 so pretty much same diameter as.
on a 09. Dropping will be worse on rubbing..
When you are going to put different wheels and tires you need to compare the difference by taping a pad on the outer side of the tread on your stock tires and roll the car to see if the pad is knocked off. The thickness of the pad is determined just we did here.
Went out and added an inch thick foam pad to 185/55x16 tires on a Fit in the shop and the pad was knocked off very quickly and soundly.
If you want to use 17" wheels stick with 45 mm offset and 195/40x17 tires. to minimize penalties to mpg and performance. A 205 width tire does absolutely nothing for a Fit except penalize.
I will point out one more thing: if you modify your fit wheelwells by rolling or bulging you essentially remove your Fit from trade-in status. You will either be refused trade-in or docked at least $1000 when appraised.

it could also be the tire brands, some are meatier than others even for the same size, and it could be suspension too, stiffer suspension will rub less, and also camber settings can affect it

Falken tires are some of the "narrowest" for lack of a better word compared to other tire companies. For example a 205/40-17 Falken Ziex ZE-512 has a tread width of 6.9 inches and a section width of 8.3 inches. Yokohama S-drive in a 205/40-17 is 7.4 inches tread width and section width of 8.5 inches.
Brand of tire does affect how the tire fits.
I am thinking there may also be some discrepancy as to the consistency of offset affecting components in our GE chassis cars as well. That or there are a lot of people posting on here who have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to tire sizing, wheel offset and the ill-defined term "rubbing".

see, the problem is that when someone says they're lowered, they don't say what they lowered with. even if you just say springs, there are probably well over a dozen different sets of springs from different manufactureres that all give different height drops. if somebody says they rub with a certain profile and offset, and another person says it doesn't with the same profile and offset, it is most likely that they think the drop is the same when in fact they are not.
props to the guys that have posted what suspension mods they have. i believe that tire profiles from different companies do have a slight difference, but i don't think it factors in as importantly as what suspension you are using.
