Tire advice

This is a dorky reply, let me just put that up front. I am a dork. Just accept it like I did. I want to go to 15" wheels for noise reasons. I am asking if 195 60 15 tires on a 15 x 7 rim will be OK? If I could get away with 185 65 15 I would do that. It would be lighter and quieter I think. I know, you think that "looks" dorky and ridiculous. Well, I don't care, I want quiet and comfy, I am old. You'll see someday. (smile thing here)

The 185's are 24.7" tall or something. Stock is 24". Problem? I don't like rubbing anymore than low profile. I don't want steering or alignment problems. What do you suggest? Remember...QUIET AND COMFY is what I want. I don't give a crap about fast corners. I care about proper alignment, going in a straight line. Any issues? Thanks, if you reply.

I'm here to help any and everyone with aggressive fitment. Whether it be your Honda GD, GE, your civic, your wrx, your bimmer, your moms van... Whatever.. Aggressive fitment isn't rocket science. There's math involved, but you don't need to work for NASA.

The most important things one needs to realize is that:

1. Everyone's opinion of aggressive wheel fitment is subjective. Go with what YOU like. If you want it so that you're a couple MM behind the fender, almost flushed, but tucking - do that. If you like flush - do that. If you like poke, stretch, camber, roll/pull - do that. It's your car...do what YOU want.

2. Even with a roll, stretch, pull, camber, etc. You might still rub. Actually, you'll rub until you've 100% nailed the fitment. Even then, you might still rub.

3. Don't expect to bolt the wheels and tires on and go. If, at a minimum, you can't/wont/dont want to roll the fenders, it's not for you. MOVE ON.

4 Aggressive fitment is work and time. If you don't have either, pay someone or MOVE ON.

5. Remember, you might rub.

6. Don't rush on anything. Make sure you double checked your measurements and math. Don't just buy wheels because they are low offset. Dont half ass or mickey mouse anything. You'll save yourself from headaches, and it'll look better.

7. Have fun!

8. Did I mention you might rub?

I'll go into more details of fitment later - I have to run to a dinner. For the time being check this out.

Thinking of going with 17x7.5 with 44mm offset, with yokohama 195x45x17 s drive tires (unless someone could lead me to a narrower tire)...will be on coilovers just not sure of the brand (looking for some with 2" drop) with no camber correction, how much will i have to cut/shave or roll fenders to get these to fit....

Either tire size you're looking at should work ok on stock wheels, you're right, the 185 65 would probably ride better and would get better fuel economy in any given situation. The only issue I can see with the 185 65's is that might have a slimmer selection of tires in that size, not being able to pick a specific tire might impact the decision more than the size. Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum , available in both sizes.

with 8's you can get a little stretch - that with some camber you'll be OK. You're drop will depend on tire size and allignment and vise versa. My suggestion - get coilovers first, not springs. you can't, er scratch that, shouldn't do wider wheels/lower offsets without adjustable suspension.

You probably need a little camber for the front, nothing for the rear. The washer trick acts like a shim in the rear that adds camber and corrects toe. It's a on a Japanese fit site.

My x7.5 +40s are almost flush in the front on 225/40s - but they are 18s, you have more options.

with a 195 you'll be fine, just roll the fenders. On a side note, if you're rolling, might as well roll them flat, no need to do things twice...hell give it a pull why don't cha.

That isn't aggressive. Just slap it on and go. You're speed will be a little off, and it'll be similar to slightly different gearing with the difference in size. Not a big deal.

Let's keep this to aggressive stuff please. That way we can have one good source of infomation on the boards.

If you increase the overall circumference of the tire + wheel your spedometer will not be accurate. Depending on how much you increase the overall size you can actually be going faster than indicated on your spedo. Given stock ride height is fairly high you should not have any rubbing issues.

those tires on 15x7 rims should be ok it seems, but keep in mind overall cirumference and try to keep it the same or minimally larger unless you are willing to have your spedo be wrong.

In terms of tire recomendations i suggest Michelin Harmony or Michelin HydroEdge with Green x. Both are quiet and deliver comfortable ride results accord to Tirerack.com and are available in 185-195/60-65/15 as you had indicated you wanted. These are not performance tires but they will be safe and comfortable. The goodyear Assurance Comfortread would also be a good choice, I have these tires on my SUV, they are available in the sizes you wanted.

What wheels are you considering?
