Moving driver's seat back farther
What year is this Fit? I have a 2018, would you be willing to make & sell this as a kit to me? Thanks
Hi Jeff, thanks for your solution. I think it is probably what spawned Extendmyseat.com. Unfortunately, my Fit is too old, so they do not have a bracket for it. I might have to go with your solution. For now, I have torn out my bottom cushion and replaced it with cardboard and crappy stuffing. It gets me lower, but not far enough back. I've had the car for over a year.
Sketchy???
I raced round track for 12 years. The aluminum seats and just bolted in. NEWS FLASH- the seat belts hold you in place. This mod, haven't done it yet but will when I get time, is more than adequate. The factory seat is bolted to stamped sheet metal floor pan anyway. Think about it...
We'll have to disagree.
A quarter inch of mild steel will easily handle the stress caused by tightening the bolts to spec, and that stress is an order of magnitude greater than any stress that might be applied to the bolts by crash loads. The stock welded-in nuts are, after all, mild steel, since you can't weld heat-treated nuts.
Roll cages are made of tubing much thinner than the bar we're talking about, generally 0.083 chromoly or 0.110 mild steel, and the boss welded through the tubing is designed to spread the load over enough of the thin tubing to prevent tear-out.
The weakest points in this seat relocation setup will still be the stamped steel seat base and the nuts welded to the body sheet metal.
And, before the inevitable question is asked, yes, I am an engineer.

Just got a my first fit(2015) two weeks ago, and completed this mod today. 100% worth it. Thanks for putting together the guide. 4" bars worked well. I cut rear two bars to 2.7" spacing installed them and then eyeballed the front two.( I think they ended up being around 2.7"-2.8").
Hi all. Anyone ever try this drivers seat mod? I just stumbled upon it when seeing if track extenders are available. I just did mine exactly like the video and it worked 100%. It's a royal b!tch hammering in the little tabs and they have to be absolutely flush but in the end I got about 2+ inches extra room. The video dude is right. It still has a very positive stop at the new end of the travel. Just like the video, I had to notch the front corner trim to clear the track when seat was at lowest position. If you zoom in on the closest seat track, you can see the notch. A pic of my results are at the bottom.
