Locking Fit With Engine Running
Locking Fit With Engine Running
All -
I have a new 19 Fit EX with push button start. On my old car (11 Ford Fiesta), I could leave the engine running (and AC on), go into a store and have the doors locked until I return and unlock them. This is useful here in Virginia in the summer when I have the dog in the car. I can't figure out how to do this in the Fit. The best I can seem to manage is to have all doors EXCEPT the driver's door locked.
I've tried the autolock (walk more than five feet away), and also just the door button but neither work.
Has anyone figured out the magic sequence to do this?
Thanks.

I use the key to manually lock the drivers door which locks all of them. I do this when I have my dog with me and I need to run in to a store for 5 minutes. I leave the engine and AC on and manually lock the doors
I get why you don't WANT to but that's what you will be doing for this to work. There are a lot of reasons Honda may not want you do lock it with the engine running, especially if it could be accidentally -- some push button Lexus models have been getting press for poisoning their owners, running unattended in the garage after the owners stepped out unaware the car was still on.
I don't see its much different from how you'd do this with a regular key and remote ... I imagine you used to leave the key in the car and took the remote out with you. Same thing just slightly different.

So the definitive answer is (as you all suspected): The only way to lock the doors while the vehicle is running is doing it manually. While on the drivers seat push the lock knob on every door, NOT the door switch that's next to the power windows. Do it to every door except the drivers side door. When you get out pull the key out of your keyless remote use that on the drivers side door to lock it. Make sure you turn it to the left otherwise you will unlock all the doors you manually locked when you were sitting inside.
I haven't investigated making a manual copy of the key but it looks pretty unique.
Thanks!

Older Honda's used to be able to manually lock without a key. You had to:
- open the door (engine running or not)
- hold open the interior driver side door latch half way WHILE
- pressing the door the lock latch (down)
and all four doors would lock. The only issue is that if your only key is in the ignition, you are locked out.
