battery sleeve

I just changed my OEM Fit battery. Does anyone know the purpose of the black corrugated plastic sleeve that surrounds the battery? It's interesting that the sleeve is large enough to surround the larger R51 battery. I'm stunned that my OEM 151R battery lasted almost eight years.

They are there to help with corrosion and some insulation. I wouldn't remove it.

My 2018 Fit never had any such thing. I'd guess that it's not essential.

Exactly, couldn't have said it better myself.
