Drivers Seat side Bolster PAIN!

Finally got home from overseas went to a local dealer to test drive a Fit. They had the exact one I wanted. Blue LX CVT. I was so excited to drive it. Checked it out top to bottom and was loving everything. Then we took it on a test drive.

After the first block I was realizing that my right arm was not comfortable on the edge of the seat bolster. The center console was to low for me to rest my arm on it and for some reason I drive with my left so my right just normally relaxes on the console storage box. But it was so low the inside of my arm was resting on the seat. That seat wraps around you like your in a 900HP supercar! It was way to much for me. I know its possible I could get a yoga block and strap it to the lid so my arm would rest on it but still im not sure how it would feel.

Any other complaints and or fixes for this.

By the way maybe the bolsters are adjustable on the EX but there not on the LX! And I don't want the EX even if they are.

My understanding is that it is not designed to be an armrest, but a center console. It's not meant for you to rest your arm on while driving. It is meant to be used as storage.

With that said, if you want add something on top to convert it into an armrest, I don't see why you can't do that.

I like to keep both hands on the wheel so I don't mind the console.

As for the seats, I've rented hundreds of cars in the last few decades and my EX seats are the best I've ever had. Just finished a 10 hour drive and was completely comfortable.

Oh the PAIN! Really? I've never seen so many people so physically tormented by a car seat.

That said, the center console is kind of low and I'm sure it's more noticeable to the CVT operators then those who aren't looking to rest while they drive.

You would think Honda would at least position the top of the console lid in line with the armrests on the doors. But nope.

Sooner or later, somebody is going to offer a taller replacement lid with more padding material and matching leather or cloth. It's a simple bolt off - bolt on replacement. I've had other cars that got specialized aftermarket attention like that. Shouldn't cost more than about $100 or less, depending on volume.

There are armrest solutions... for the LX/DX only... for the moment. Here's what appears to be a good product - link.

We have the EX and are looking for a solution, nothing yet.

Inventor of the Yoga Block Mod here (I use the term, inventor, in its loosest possible meaning) and I'm happy to report that it's a phenomenally practical, economic, comfortable and durable solution to a problem that never should have existed. It's been 4 months and it's holding up perfectly.

Thanks Notblake. I commend you on your very practical solution. However I am looking for something more factory looking. see link in prev post.
Thanks again though.

O so your the guy "NotBlake" I saved a picture of that on my computer but couldn't remember who did that. Also I have seen the extended arm rest/console that korgster is talking about! Looks like the yoga block will go with me on the next test drive! Wonder what the salesman will say LOL

That's too funny! I'd love to be there to witness this . Maybe Honda will start to carry them as option.

So far, until I can purchase an OEM product, I think the solution for me will be a variation of the "curtain rod prop" solution. I'm short so the armrest doesn't need to be opened much to provide proper support. Raised slightly at a low angle (armrest opened) I can rest my elbow on the front portion and rest my hand on the shifter (auto transmission). Same principle as the curtain rod solution.

Since I don't like the look of the curtain rod, I'll be looking to create a small block which looks like at "T" with a fat bottom. Perhaps use black packing material some times found in computer shipping boxes (hard foam) which would be easily carved to shape. The idea is to prop open the armrest with it. When not in use, it could be dropped into the compartment... or simply left in place.

Thoughts?

Korgster, if that works for you, go for it. If all you need is a place to rest your elbow, then the angle of the console lid shouldn't matter. Post pics when you're done, it's gotta look better than the yoga block.
