Storing the back center seat belt

I was investigating the center seatbelt construction today and can't seem to find a way to securely attach the "small latch plate" to the holder in the roof of the car. It kind of tucks in and comes right back out with minimal effort, since the larger latch plate is much heavier. I'm sure it would fall out with the first bump in the road I encounter.

Is there some tricky angle that would keep it in place securely? And if not, any ideas on how to secure it in there?

Here's the part I'm talking about:

You probably just need to push it in further. If I recall, it was a bit tight.

Push it in which direction? I tried to wiggle it in pretty firmly both straight up and to the side, but with no results. Should I expect a click?

Push it in horizontally. When pushed in, it shows about 1/8 inch of metal. No clicks heard. Notice my buckle (latch platte) is folded up, just like the diagram you posted, not hanging down.

It hasn't gone down in 1500 miles.

Thanks for the picture, that is SUPER helpful. I'll give it another try tomorrow, however I'm seeing a metal (?) part to the left of the latch that I did not see in mine - it was just all hole, so that could be why it came back out so easily.

Eh, couldn't wait till tomorrow. Braved the cold (you might notice some frost on the plastic), and giving it a firmer push definitely did the trick. It still looks a little different from your picture, but there is some kind of metal part inside that seems to hold it in securely, which is good enough for me.

I leave mine dangle. Tried to latch it in, but the whole apparatus seems flimsy, so I would rather not break it.

I agree, the design wouldn't win any awards. However, if you just push it in, with a gentle force, I don't think anything can actually break.

The dangling would drive me personally a little crazy. After shining a light in there and inspecting the "mechanism", I think it's sturdy enough to hold the latch in most of the time - I don't plan on using that belt very often, though. Maybe take a closer look at it yourself?
If anything happens to mine I'll probably take some heavy duty velcro to it.
