I have never heard of it either, and it is especially suspicious since it is random rather than predictable, and not mentioned in the operator's manual, but I'm not sure it's worth fighting about.

The only auto lock scenario that I'm aware of is the condition where the car is locked, you press the keyfob to unlock, you don't open any doors within a minute and the car will relock itself.

That is exactly what I think!

Exactly, and this has been the case with all the cars I've recently owned.

Well, actually, I had a Hyundai Accent that would auto-lock after 30 seconds, if I forgot to lock it and walked away.

Ask for him to take you out in the lot and have that demonstrated on a new car sitting there. I bet it doesn't happen. I've never heard of ALL/ANY Hondas doing this as a "feature".

I did have a similar problem on another car, though, and the problem was traced to a defective/intermittent door switch that turns the interior lights on/off when you get in/out of the car. Have them check that. It seems the door locks use that signal to know when someone has exited the vehicle and not to automatically relock the car.

Good thought on having him demonstrate the feature on another car. For me it is difficult to demonstrate the problem to him because it is intermittent, and I haven't found a consistent pattern. I also had a door switch problem on my VW once, and I agree that may be a good place to start.

Once in the late 90s I was given a Cadillac DeVille "upgrade" by National Cat Rental in Minnesota. Stopped at Pizza Hut in near blizzard conditions and, when I sat down, I notice movement across the parking lot. I watched incredulously as the trunk opened all the way with snow piling in on my stuff. Had to get geared up and shuffle back out in a hurry. Funny now.
No issues with the Fit locking or unlocking unexpectedly.

"Car" rental. I did not rent a cat.

W've had this random locking problem ever since we got the fit (2015, "Base" 6-spd manual trans) Very annoying.

THEN, 2 days ago in the middle of the night, the theft alarm started to "honk-honk-honk", then stop, and do it again. We were cussing whatever neighbor it was - until I let the dog out and discovered it was our Fit!! (live out in the country)

One reason we chose the "Base" model was that we don't want all those bells & whistles.

Took it to the dealer & they were clueless, said there is no way to simply disable the "Security Alarm" - did not offer to take a look at it, basically just "Sorry-live with it"

My fit does this (EX-L Navi 2016) and my mothers CR-V (2015) does this. As long as I don't touch another door after getting out it will auto lock. I usually lock it with the button on the handle anyway so I've never noticed any intermittent issues where it doesn't lock.

Edit: I've done some self testing and if you unlock the doors through grabbing the handle but don't turn the car on the doors will always re-lock themselves. If you use the FOB the car won't re-lock and if you just get out of the car and leave it I haven't had it lock. Maybe that's the reason?

Still have the - annoying - problem.

No, Newbiefitfreak, I always unlock with the fob (how does one "unlock the doors through grabbing the handle"?) and since I live in the country, I never lock it at home. Then sometimes at random, it's locked the next time I go to drive it.

This also seems to be somehow related to the damn alarm going off at random.

I keep the fob in my pocket. Occasionally, working on stuff around the house, say, I'll get in a position that crimps the fob buttons in my pocket and either lock the car or set off he panic button.

Yep, same here. I've bet most of us have done that at one time or another.

In my 2008 Fit, this happens even if the car is unlocked. Regardless of whether the car is locked or unlocked, if I unlock it with the remote keyfob, and don't open the door, the care will lock itself. It's the unlocking with the keyfob, and then not opening the door, that triggers the car to lock. It has nothing to do with whether the car was locked or unlocked before the keyfob button is pressed.

I don't know if that's how it works with a G3, but it's definitely the way it is with my ride.

The Fit EX has a capacitive switch in the inside of the driver and front passenger door handle. Touching it with your hand will unlock the door, as long as you have the fob on your person. So will spraying the door handle with a water hose, while washing the car, by the way.

Don't know if the LX has this or not.
