What to pay for a non-chipped door key?

In years past I've heard of people ordering mechanical keys, with no transponder in them, solely to pop the door if you lock your keys inside. I believe I heard them priced for under $12 at dealers but my own local dealer had never heard of this. What should I pay for a mechanical door key I can keep in my wallet or bag in case I lock my keys inside?

Dunno 'bout the newer style keys, but a local key shop/locksmith should be able to help ya out....older style keys (where the whole key was cut to the shape) are cheap....dunno how they make copies from the way the Honda keys are cut now, with the "shape" being on either side of a flat piece ...

I wanted to do this too. Is it possible to have our keys cut w/o transponder at a key place?

I called my dealer (who is about 250 miles away), and told him I needed a key to only unlock my door so I didn't have to carry my electronic key in my PFD when I'm paddling my kayak.

Tech asked for my VIN and a couple days later a plain metal key arrived in the mail. Cost around $15 with postage.

I now can lock my keys in the car and keep the metal key tethered to my PFD pocket. Wonderful solution. Except that I alternate between two PFDs, so going to have another one made in case I forget to check the pocket.

They tend to be a bit more being a laser cut key. I had one copied using the emergency key that's in the transponder key. Ran about $35 at a local locksmith.

My Honda dealer charged 425. Hardware store couldn't do Honda keys.
