2015 Honda Fit digital display. The right hand side of the display that has the fuel gage on it has an intermittency in it. Sometimes it works and displays correctly. Sometimes it looks really weird and sometimes it is just blank. The Display is $800 just for the part and $150 to put it in. The Dealer said they would need to diagnosis it first for $150. They indicated they had not seen the problem before.
it looks like a cold solder joint to the display as indicated by "awesome travis" pretty simple if you can put in the time and do it. but my question always is.........the distance to empty is also displayed on main panel...so why do you really NEED that round display ???
Hi Travis,
I too have a 2015 Honda Fit LX same problem just arose. Spoke to local dealer and NO WARRANTY. But I will try to "re-solder". So just to be sure it's the 8 pins to the left of T163 ( your picture) . Thanks for your help, appreciated.
I'm in my 3rd winter of this happening to my 2015.when it gets proper cold the entire cluster is sluggish and slomo until it heats up. This is expected for electronic displays at -30 to -40 and lower...
What isn't is how the fuel guage flakes out like everyone describes. Usually happens when the car has sat a while near freezing, but not consistently, and resumes function at some point during the drive.
Dealership noticed it during an oil change when I was just outside the bumper to bumper period and I shrugged it off. My other vehicle is a Jeep so I know all about stuff failing but Honda pricing on parts is totally rediculous. Was quoted a mind boggling price to replace the lawnmower battery that was in their with another OEM lead acid. I quietly escaped, modified my battery tray, and dropped in an AGM. Problem still occurred so I doubt it's a voltage thing from the annoying parasitic loss these cars have. Also, considering I don't plug my block heater in, park outside, and have insane winter temperatures I doubt it's my battery because if the starter turns over the honey in my block fine the levels should be peachy for clusters.
Water penetration in a fuse box is interesting. These cars suck for that and I learned not to park facing downhill at night if I don't want water on my floor mats.
In the end, I resolved myself to live with the shit guage. Like another said, as long as the headunit shows my approximate range my wife and I are ok. It sucks but not worth spending money on when I would rather upgrade the Jeep

Thanks for the pictures, do you have anymore info/ pictures? Im going to try this repair myself and I want to make sure I do it right.
... how to remove it from car and gave it to my friend who works at cellphone service and has professional soldering machine.
he disassembled gauges, removed the chip and put it back.
Now i am happy owner of working gauges on FIT))
Was your Fit drivable with the board for the dash clusters? If so, I may have someone do the same for me when it gets warm again after all.

I used a low watt soldering iron 25w with a small tip. Make sure you remove the old solder with a solder sucker. I used a tooth brush with soft bristle to clean up the area after I removed the old solder. When you solder do one pin at a time. You can use blue masking tap to isolate the area you want to solder.
I have a 2020 Fit (bought in July) and it's doing this. I'm beyond angry. A brand new vehicle less than a year old and they sent it out with defective parts? That's totally unacceptable. It sounds like this is a known issue, it's not obscure in any way because so many of us are having it. I called a dealership and without even bringing it in they were able to tell me it'd need to be replaced because it's defective. Of course, they're going to check it out to be 100% sure but these photos are EXACTLY what my display is doing... I'm filing a vehicle complaint immediately. This needs to be removed from all Honda's and replaced with something that can withstand cool weather.

I've got a 2015 EX Fit since new with 47k miles and this information display malfunction has been an issue for me since 2017. As some people have been saying it seems to happen more when the weather is fairly cold.
The information display going out is a PITA. It displays more than just the fuel gauge. Would love to see a recall from Honda or a followup from people who re-soldered the connections to see how its holding up.
the resoldering info is the best news i have heard since a covid vaccine. LUCKILY my only ailment so far is the VTEC rattle on cold start.....20k car...5 years=4k a year so far...fingers crossed it goes down to my average of 1k
New user here. I just wanted to say thanks to Travis for the soldering info. Over the weekend I purchased a lightly used 2018 Fit Sport with 6 speed. Didn’t notice any concerns and took it home Saturday. Well Sunday morning I went out to play around with the car and the fuel/odo was completely dead. I tried starting the car a few times and disconnected the battery, but nothing worked. Later that day I checked again and it worked fine. Did some research and found this thread. Monday morning it did the same thing. I was pretty irritated at this point and wondered if I’d made the right decision after reading about this being so common. The gauges then started working again Monday as it warmed up. Well yesterday I decided to try the soldering advice above. I will say it is really not very hard at all. There are detailed instructions on how to remove the gauge cluster by taking out the stereo and everything, but it’s not necessary if you’re careful. I simply pulled the bezel with my hands and undid the 3 screws that hold the gauge cluster in. From there you can carefully flip the gauges forward and kind of twist them out around the steering wheel (it does take a little effort to get them out carefully). If you’re worried about breaking stuff then I suggest you follow the more detailed instructions and remove the vents and radio but it can be done pretty quickly without. Here is the thread on removing the cluster. Gauge Cluster Removal. From there I took the gauges to work and re-soldered exactly where Travis showed. This morning was my coldest morning yet with the car (32*F) and everything worked perfectly after 3 days in a row of the screen being dead in the morning. This works! Anyone should be able to remove their gauges pretty easily. If you’re not comfortable soldering then find a local computer shop or handyman to help you. Seriously, save yourself some time, money and headache. Thanks again Travis. I’m now excited about the new car again!

Hmm, the 2015 Honda Fit did this but I just thought it was a fluke, but I took it to the dealer and since it had come back on, they just told me it had to have the issue in order for them to diagnose.
Glad I found this thread! My 2015 Fit started having this issue about 3 years ago, right after the warranty ran out (of course!), and mostly happens when it's cold in the morning (from Minnesota).
I can usually get the gauge information to come back if I knock pretty hard on the plastic in front of the display, but doesn't always work. I just started a courier job using my car, and they require daily photos of my odometer. I figured it was time to get this fixed, so it doesn't jeopardize my job! 🤬
I also just submitted an online vehicle safety complaint on the US Department of Transportation website; not sure if that will do any good.
I'm going to read more about taking the dash apart and see if I can talk my friends or dad into soldering that. What a pain in the butt!
Many of us here, and many of us don't have enough knowledge or ability to do the repair ourselves. If someone wants to pursue a class action, count me in.
I've been having this issue off and on with my 2018 Fit Sport for the last year and a half. Same symptoms, more frequent in cold weather, display glitching out in multiple ways. Looked like a loose cable. Was more of a problem in Denver due to the frequency of below 40f days, but the temperature range at which the glitch would start happening began to grow until it was happening on days 60-65F and below.
It got bad enough that I finally took it in for work and to my surprise they replaced the entire gauge cluster. Cold solder joint seems accurate, I was able to fix the issue with some percussive maintenance (open palm slap to the dash) but that started becoming less and less of a fix.
