Bluetooth iphone problems

I have just purchased a 2016 honda jazz, VTi model (australia). I am unable to get my iphone to pair correctly with the car system. It will connect but contacts will not transfer over and when the car is turned off and om again, i need to pair it all over again...it doesn’t automatically connect. Using an iphone 6 with ios 11.4

I took it to a Honda dealer today and they have said that nothing can be done , that the car has old technology in it and i’d need an iphone 4 to make it work!! This surely can’t be correct. Are other people having this difficulty? Is there a firmware update or something that we can get, or should we take it to another dealer?

Not all phones and features are compatible with all versions of the cars/systems. That's just how it is sometimes.
People using Apple products seem to have the most complaints.

I'm in North America, we have a site where owners can check their phone compatibility
I don't know if this will work in your country but try this link:

Possible fix for bluetooth problems.

Here's a breakdown of steps to troubleshoot Bluetooth issues on your iPhone:-
1. Turn it on:- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled in your iPhone's Settings menu.
2. Device Charged & On:- Verify your Bluetooth device (speaker, headphones, etc.) is charged or plugged in and powered on.
3. Restart iPhone:- Completely restart your iPhone.
4. Restart Bluetooth Device:- If possible, restart your Bluetooth device according to its manual (consult the device's manual for specific instructions).
Connection Management:
5. Forget & Re-pair:- Forget the Bluetooth device in your iPhone's settings (Settings > Bluetooth, tap the info icon next to the device, then tap "Forget This Device") and try re-pairing it.
6. iOS Update:- Check for and install the latest iOS update for your iPhone (Settings > General > Software Update).
Follow for further instruction below.

iOS 11 is now 6-7 years old. Even Apple doesn't support that phone or OS anymore and they have far more incentive to do so than Honda does. I don't think another Honda dealer would tell you anything different.

I would try Lilith's instructions to see if they work (not much work for what you could gain) but if they don't you might consider either going without contacts or seeing if a USB connection works any better.
