On BobIsTheOilGuy.com users have evaluated Honda's claims that the OEM filters will last two oil change cycles.

They DO.

I still change mine every oil change, though. You just can't teach an old dog new tricks...

New filters never hurt anyone. I'm still trying to cope with these huge oil change intervals, don't try to make me skip a new filter!

Since it's been cold and I've been busy with work, I decided to take my car to the service center for its first oil change. My first time ever not doing it myself in all 10+ years of driving. It felt weird.

Opted for the oil and filter change, despite what I've read about the filter lasting 2 oil changes.

Cost me a little more than if I bought everything at the auto parts store. But I didn't have to bust out the jack and jackstands and lay on the cold ground. And hey, free coffee.

for those of you who follow honda's recommendation of changing just the oil at 7500 miles .... a fumoto valve is going to be your best friend. this is something I install on ALL of my cars

I go by the oil life meter display on the gauge cluster. Got down to 20% at the first oil change, 10% for the 2nd, which happened at 11,500 miles.

I do drive fairly rev happy though

just did my 1st oil change at 30k. man, the car feels darn peppy!

after 7500 miles, I'm gonna give the purolator "boss" filter a try, and mobil 1's extended oil and see how a 15k oci treats me

this will be a future post but .... expect a uoa from me at 7500 miles, and then one more uoa at 15000 miles (using the boss filter, and extended life oil of course)

I usually use PL14610, but I thought I'd give this "purolator BOSS" stuff a try .... both items are rated for 15k ... I do plan on going the distance, and will provide a UOA afterwards to see how the combo holds up .... this will be a long-term "ill report back later to you guys" kinda test.

If it goes well ... my oci's will be 15k from here on out. If the UOA looks horrible, I'll stick to 7500 and go back to plain jane PL14610 and non extended performance 0w-20.

Which Fumoto?

Might you have the Fumoto part number that fits the . . . err . . . Fit? (Mine is a 2017 EX, but hopefully the same valve will fit all GKs). Looking on Amazon, it seems there are different ones e.g. F-103N, F-108N, etc.

Did my first oil change. Change #3. Did it in an empty Toys R Us parking lot (one of the stores they closed). The stealership service department that did the last oil change tightened the drain plug way too much. Owners manual says 29 foot pounds. I'm estimating they tightened a lot more than that, judging by how hard it was to unscrew. I'm worried they might have damaged the threads in the aluminum block. Also, one of the 2 stealership service departments that did an oil change, rounded of the edges of the hex on the hex head of the drain plug, making my 17 mm hex socket (I needed my 1/2 inch drive socket on my 1/2 drive breaker bar to break the drain plug free, instead of my 3/8 inch, and even with that it needed a lot of muscle) start to slip off. I had to keep downward pressure on the socket, with my other hand. It showed signes of being battered by an impact wrench. Also, the area of the block near the drain plug showed signs of being battered by an impact wrench that must have slipped off the drain plug. Or battered by something. Probably did not do any harm, but it contributes to showing what idiots they are at one or another of the stealership service departments that worked on my car.

I used Valvoline Full Synthetic "Advanced" (same product they used to call Valvoline Full Synthetic "SynPower," same part number).

One of the stealerships switched the 2 plastic fasteners at the back of the plastic shroud, for the type used on the bumper cover. They seemed to work well, and I retained them. They were easy to pry out, and easy to push back in, and they seemed to attach snugly to the round hole in the metal part behind them. So I see no reason to change them back to the original kind with the Philips Head slot in them. Also, I had some extras on hand from buying extras before removing-replacing my bumper cover.

Great info evilchargerfan. Interesting that Mobil 1 "high mileage" synthetic was used, although i suspect it makes no difference whether you use "regular synthetic" or high mileage synthetic.

I do agree, no diff. the cost is the same, might as well buy the jug that includes more text/wording.

I read somewhere it has conditioners for rings. and other additives. who knows if its the truth, or total lies. but hey, for the price of $0.00 more, I'll take it

Are there any video tutorials or instructions for how to do it on a 2015 Fit. (Apologies in advance if this is something I should already know but gotta start somewhere i guess)

Also what type of oil (amount), filter, anything else i would need?

Thank you to all.
