3rd Generation GK Specific DIY: Repair & Maintenance Sub-ForumThreads discussing repairs and maintenance you can do yourself on the 3rd generation Honda Fit (GK)
If you see transmission fluid on the underside of the car or on the ground the level will be lower and it needs checking. Unlike engine oil, the fluid has nowhere else to go and therefore doesn't need regular checking.
this trans does not have a dipstick, what it does have is a fill plug on the side of the trans. It is a 17 mm bolt, uses HCF-2 fluid
have included pictures you have to remove lower engine cover same as when doing oil change Drain plug location 3/8 ratchet will work on this Fill plug location and fluid tag
Transmission fluid change is no harder than an oil change. Well, maybe a tiny bit because of access.
1) Warm everything up.
2) Loosen the fill plug (you don't want to drain what you can't fill).
3) Get you drain pan in place.
4) Remove the drain plug. Check the magnet for metal. Wipe it clean before replacing.
5) Replace the drain plug and torque to spec.I think there's a crush washer you're supposed to replace (there is on the A/T).
6) Fill through the fill plug using the appropriate fluid until a bit of runs out and drips into your eyes.
7) Replace fill plug and torque to spec.
To answer the original question, if you want to check the level you have to remove the fill plug. The fluid should be level with the fill plug. The manual will tell you if the tranny should be cold or hot when you check (I can't remember off the top of my head). I know you check the A/T level when hot, so it's probably the same for the M/T.
