Wiring your backup / rear view / reverse camera to a switch

Hello all, new to FitFreak here! I've done a few modifications to my 2017 Fit that I'd like to share with you since I haven't found them ANYWHERE online.

I wired my backup / rear view / reverse camera to a switch so I can turn it on while driving. It significantly helps with blind spots, and my sub woofers rattle my rear view mirror down so I end up looking at my center console LOL. From videos I've seen online for other cars it's always the same technique; Using 3 diodes and some other overly complex circuits.
The way I wired it only required: Switch, 4 butt connectors, and 14/18 gauge wire (circuit is only running 12 volts with very low amperage).

I will attach pictures / videos for all DIY enthusiasts.

NOTE: Factory Head Unit (Radio)

Let me explain this horrific schematic.

In the door rails (I accessed both sides from front doors) there will be 2 sets of wires on each side of your car. They are brown with a silver dot/stripe every so often on them. If you do not have these color wires or have a different gen car, you will need to access your reverse lightbulb and see what color wire is providing power to it. Then use your multimeter in the door rails and probe that wire to ground while putting the car in reverse to see it change from 0v to 12v. These are your wires.

If you cut both of them on each side and supply 12v to both front halves, the camera will come on. If you supply 12v to both back halves, the reverse lights will come on. The way I wired them to a switch I am controlling where both the front halves of the brown/silver dot wires go.

You need a single pole double throw (SPDT) switch. Google it if you don’t know what they are so you buy the correct switch. Left, Middle, and Right connections. IMPORTANT: The middle connection must be wired to both of the front halves of the brown/silver dot wires (Or whatever color wires you have leading to the front of the vehicle). Then left or right will get the 12v power and the back half of the brown/silver dot wires. The orientation of these 2 does not matter, only the middle connection.

1. If you have the camera switch ACTIVATED, the reverse lights will NOT come on, ONLY the camera.

2. If you have the camera switch ACTIVATED and put the car in reverse, the reverse lights will NOT come on, ONLY the camera.

3. If you have the camera switch DE-ACTIVATED, both your camera and reverse lights WILL come on while the car is in reverse.

I hope I explained this in a way for you to understand my crayola wiring diagram. I positioned my switch underneath the eco button. There’s 2 or 3 empty slots there.

I uploaded a photo of the wiring and a detailed description, waiting on moderator approval...

Well since the mods are slacking, I made a quick youtube video on how I did this. If you need a more in depth explanation let me know!
