Do the Swift or w/e springs give you the ride height you want? If the answer is yes, just do those.

Honestly, a shock/spring combo will suffice for daily driving.

yeah they should. Minimal drop is fine. I’m not concerned with that as much as I am with improving handling. That’s what I’ll prob do.

205/50 15 or 205/45 16 tires (depending if you're lx or ex) will improve both handling AND acceleration for even less money. The smaller overall tire height is like a direct increase to your final drive ratio. Im stock suspension on some light 15x7 w/205-50 summer tires, car is WAY more tossable than the dinky 185 tip toe specials. Its also noticeably quicker. I feel like im Definetly going full coilover when i finally do suspension, i NEED that adjustability for my ocd. Kevin's car is an inspiration for sure 👌

Yeah I’ve already ordered lightweight 15s. Prob gonna run 205/55 to keep drive the same. Since it’s predominantly a daily I’d prefer to not have the speedo off.

Well, in my experience the real world difference your speedometer reads is insignificant compared to the boost in acceleration, and the 205/50 are about 2lbs lighter per tire than a 205/55 wich is not insignificant to rotational unsprung weight. I run a seperate, gps calibrated speedometer via torque pro, and the oem speedometer is identical to it even with the change in size, wich i find odd. The ecu may be able to auto correct speedo based on the tpms/abs system since they are counting tire rotations independently from speed. Im not 100% sure on that, but would explain why my speedo is still accurate.

Yeah maybe. I would assume the more likely reason to be the tire choice. Not all tires are created equally when it comes to true width (not all 205s are exactly 205). What tire are you running? Im likely going with a DZ102.

I have no no plans of running an external monitor for the street. But honestly, 205/50 is only -3.7% Speed compared to 205/55, so even at 80 mph that’s only a few mph off. Maybe I should reconsider. Shit, it’ll also save me like $20 per tire haha. 🤔

I currently have the 205 50 dz102 on my b16b swapped ek, they are loud, and suck bad in the cold and rain, but have a fairly high limit on dry warm roads. On the fit i have hankook ventus v2 concept 2, wich are much more quiet, just as shitty in wet, but much more predictable and consistently grippy in both cold and warm dry roads. The dunlop is Definetly the smaller and lighter of the two, its got a flatter contact patch, and much more defined sidewalls. Its also much harsher riding.

Ha yeah, DZ102 certainly not breaking any records. I was leaning this way bc there were limited options in 205/55. This or S.Drive. And both tires not great, but at least the DZ would get me longer life. I'll also have the stock wheels/tires which I can throw back on in winter if needed (or if I keep the car long enough and drive it in snow, I'll throw some X-Ice Xi3 on there).
Again, I may do a few random track days, but this is mainly a highway and backroad car. I'm just getting bored since I--for the first time ever--don't have a sport car. So I'm biding my time until the next purchase a couple months from now. I'll look into 205/50s. You've convinced me.

The dunlop is great for how cheap it is dont get me wrong. They served their purpose and like i said in warm dry weather they actually have some pretty high limits for a street tire. They just turn into hockey pucks when cold. U wont regret the 205/50 15 if u are used to sportier cars, wakes the car up alot.

Nice. Yeah I'm just bored right now so I'm doing stupid shit haha. Just sold my R32 GTR and looking to get an 06+ AP2 in the next couple months. But I just can't seem to NOT fuck with my cars. Even the daily.

Realistically, neither coilovers nor lowering springs are going to really improve your handling all that much. They'll just be stiffer & likely reduce roll a bit.

I would think the improved dampening of the Koni oranges with the Swifts would improve handling, lower ride height (helping on highway speeds), and reduce roll all in addition to just being stiffer. I mean, I'm not expecting miracles. But this shit is so cheap, even a nominal improvement would be welcome since shocks/springs is like $650. Plus, aesthetic improvement. It's just a little disappointing that the online presence is small for this car, so there's like 2 people to give opinions on any specific setup. Not a whole lot of crowdsourcing to be done. And very few direct/personal comparisons available.

I remember watching a video of what made the biggest difference at the track, a better suspension or better tires. Better tires won hands down if you could only do one. Combining them was even better obviously.

Is this the video you're referring to?
