Winter Tires for EXL

Hi,

Just got my 2015 EXL and I was wondering about winter tires and rims.

The original wheels are 16 inch 185/55R16s

The dealer claims that using 15 inch winter tires and rims are beneficial in snow.

Opinions?

Thanks

Read through this thread for lots of input. I ended up getting the 15" wheels and tires (shown in pic), which will probably go on within the month (flurries all yesterday and today).

*** Edited 12.2....14's do not fit on the 2015 Fit...everything is bigger.....***

I'm actually going to runn 14's on mine. When the same rims were on my 10 - Hit the nose on steep driveways once or twice, but she handles amazing in the snow. Granted, I won't take her out in a blizzard, but I've gone out in plowed stuff and even up to 4-5 or 6 inches with a problem. She's not my previous Audi or Subie, but she'll get you there.

I got a package deal on steelies and snows for about half of what it was going to cost for steelies and snows on the 16's. I love having a separate set of rims and not having to pay every tire swamp. Also, if you think about it, you have a full size spare for road trips. It's not ideal, but it's better than a donut.

I found my speedometer was off about 1 mile per ten...If I wanted to go 65mph, thats in the sixty range so I'd add 6+65 and set the cruise at 71....If I wanted to go 45 I'd set the cruise at 49....Clocked it using my old GPS and it worked reasonable well for a ball park.

Picked up the blue EX/MT on Monday, ordered snows when we got home, should have them by Tuesday. No idea why the dealer would claim 15's themselves would be beneficial in snow. There may be more tire options and less $. I got General Altimax Arctic in 185/65-15 on bronze Drag DR31's (discount tire direct $645 mounted, balanced, shipped). That tire size is .5" larger diameter so a tad more clearance, but shouldn't have any issues.

Hoping these wheels look like I'm anticipating...

i agree. 15's are better then 16's regarding inclement weather. i went with 2013 fit 15x5 wheels with 185/65-15 general altimax tires. reason i went 15 over 14 is i wanted a taller tire to make both the gearing and the car taller, which is beneficial in deeper snow.

i will be putting them back on full time this weekend, since we got our first dusting last night. my driveway was all ice when i got home, so i need them now...

I chose to go with Tire Rack's "preferred package" which includes 14" steel wheels, though I opted for the General Altimax Arctic rather than the Dunlop Winter Maxx that is the default for the package.

Sizing is 185/70-14, which is less than a 1% difference in overall diameter versus the stock setup.

I put General Altimax Arctic 195/60 R15, with MOMO RPM rims 6.5" width & +38 offset. It's less than 1% taller than the stock EX/EX-L. They look pretty nice. However the +38 offset isn't ideal (front wheels stick out just a tiny bit, but no rubbing at all). I think +45 to 47 offset is ideal for 6.5" wide rims.
