Windshield Whining-Noise Problem Solved!

I was one of the few who had the whining-noise problem on my Fit. This problem would only arise during highway speeds. While doing 70-MPH, I started moving my hand around the edges of the inside windshield and found a spot (top-center) where if I applied pressure, the sound would muff or totally stop.

I went to Amazon.com and got 3M Black Super Silicone Sealant 3M P/N 051135-08662. I applied it under the outside black rubber seal at the problem spot. Took the Fit for a spin and hit 85MPH. The whining noise is now gone.

It seemed that air would somehow get under the seal at that spot during Highway speeds causing the whining noise.

Thank god its gone, I was seriously getting annoyed with it and am happy I now wont have to take the car in for service.

It'd be great to take a picture of this area and show us where it is.

Exclamation

There's a dealer TSB on this item - you still might want to have a dealer give it a look see - doubt they'd warranty your repairs if it ever rears its' ugly head as a major issue in the future....

That same thing happened with my 96 Civic (although I would classify the noise as a howl...VERY loud, only happened over 70 mph). You'd think Honda would've learned how to properly install a windshield by now.

Here is a PDF of the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for the noise issue and how to fix it. http://www.tonsa.com/catalogimages/FIT2007.pdf

I have had 2 out of 3 of the same noise problems as Edstroyer on our new AT sport orange Fit. Ed's seems to be orange too--maybe it's the color. Anyway, the chattery wiper problem was solved by flipping the blades as Ed suggested. Number 2 is the whining windshield at hiway speeds. Tomorrow I'll take the car in to Honda to see if they can fix that. I've got the TSB printed out that Ed provided the link to above, to show them, since the service person I spoke to said they'd never heard of this problem. We'll see what happens next, both with the service tomorrow and with whether our Fit will decide in full solidarity with Ed's car to also do some noise-making with its door...

And the result is: No noise on the hiway today, hooray!

Dropped the Fit for the day yesterday at the dealership, presented them with the print out of the TSB. Picked it up today, I could see a little bit of a bead across the gap at the top of the windshild gasket, and voila, no more annoying whining noise driving above 65 today. If only other whining could be eliminated so easily...

Thanks again to those of you who made this info so easily accessible.
