How often do you need to clean these?

This is my first K & N and I will probably clean it quarterly or if it looks dirty. We need to get a K & N cleaning kit. I'm thinking my local auto parts store will have one.

Kenchan, it's a K & N RU-3700. On the box it says to use 0.7 fl. oz. (21 ml) of K & N oil when servicing filter.

Well, I put on my Megan axle back yesterday and I have to say it does go along with the H-Fit SSI quite well! The car sounds great! Altho the H-Fit is louder then the exhaust at higher RPMs! lol Just thought that was kind of funny. My only question now is how hard is it on my motor now that I'm gunning it all the time off and on highways and stuff? lol I'm slowing down on the highway just so I can slam the gas and hear all the wonderful music! Am I killing my little Fit motor?!?! lol

amazon has the K&N filter for $36. wife's a premier member with free shipping so im going to order that next month.

as for immediate care, i vac'ed the filter from the outside to remove
the large dandelion seeds. after removing that, the filter appeared
still very clean, so not as urgent as originally thought.

ive been driving in the rain quite a bit and noticed that the filter
hose protion was wet but not the inside of the filter. also touched
inside the SSI to see if there was any water. completely dry.

i made a small deflector lip out of EZ felt in front of the filter but
closer to the opening on the hood...meaning, forward of the rubber
hood stop. will see if that keeps water away. i dont want to put
something too close to the proximity of the filter as it would distrupt
clean cold air flow to the filter.

Ryno, that litle Fit motor is a jewel and if you keep clean oil in it and don't exceed the redline, you should be able to have too much fun! It's fun to listen to the axleback at lower RPM's and then to have the SS drown it out. Glad you like the megan, it's pretty also IMO.

has anyone thought about picking up some mandrel bent U piping from jcwhitney and turning this into a comb intake... cutting the mandrel bent piping to push it into the fender to make it a cold air intake?? is it possible, it would be kind of cool, no? you get the instant air from the chambered intake, but the cold air from the fender

(you could use some of the parts from the diy sid short ram to move the K&N) i wonder what h-fit thinks about that.

Sure have thought about it - looking at the fender wall I question if a round hole that size cut out there would compromise structural integrity? Such a shame to have the factory odd-sized duct there and not be able to use it.

i thought i read in some random thread that 2.5-3 inch piping would fit into the fender through the hole where the oem air funnel went through. am i tripping on that?

i just was wondering if it was possible to do the cold air supa sucka combo intake

i wonder what it would do performance wise

i found the thread i was referring to

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...ryer-hose.html

claymore uses dryer hose into the fender as a diy cold air intake he says you can push and prod a 3.5 inch piping into the hole. so maybe we could finesse some piping in.

what do you think?

Okay, I don't have any numbers, but it does feel like it pulls better and with my totally stock exhaust, the intake noise is alot more than exhaust at hi revs, just like RynoZebs was saying. Sounds badass, seems to help, okay good product. I like it!!

Anyone suffering from heak soak???
I notice when its hot out, above 105F,
the fit runs sluggish. At night is runs fine.
Last summer I had no problems with
the stock intake, this is my first summer with it.

I hope H-Fit comes out with a heat shield or
fresh air duct for this intake!!!

A fresh air option would be nice. Fortunately, it usually never gets over 90 here. I think that A-J Racing - Tsushinoko is the only outfit that offers a chamber that sucks from a fresh-air outlet behind the front bumper, but it costs over a grand and I believe you have to remove the bumper to clean the filter. For an additional horsepower or so, usually noticeable at top-end, it doesn't seem worth it.

This weekend I noticed the screw at the top of the chamber holding the left & right side of the chamber together was missing. I got my SSI on 10/2007.

I know the screw was there on 8/27/08 @ an autocross event. Maybe it came off from running the event. Fit seems to be running just fine and my last 2 fill-ups resulted in 31 mpg.

Sent email to H-Fit asking for screw size...still waiting for reply. Probably gonna check for a screw replacement myself.

Got an email from H-Fit saying they'd send me a replacement screw. Figured I'd get "the" screw from H-Fit would be ideal. Everything's still working ok so far. Still waiting...hope it gets here soon.

Edit 10/3/08: Got 4 additional screws from H-Fit today. Cool! Installed the missing screw with some rtv silicone and everthing is just as it was b4. Just in time for my next autocross event on 10/5. Thanks H-Fit!

ok, everyone... post your input please

how much more engine noise is there when cruising on the highway? at 70-80mph

i drive 120miles/day to work, and i REFUSE to install anything that will make it louder on the highway. i will consider an intake, especially to help low end torque but NOT at the expense of extra engine noise in an already loud interior.
