a few pics of this intake installed on my car can be found here
By the way thanks Nighthawksi I used your thread as guide lines for the install. Did you bypass the throttle body heater or is yours jutting out into the side of the air box.

refering to this picture, you talking about the samll metal tube coming out of the throttle body that bends 90 degrees down?
if so, i didnt bypass it, i took a hammer and hit it a few times so that its facing down, rather than to the right

Nighthawk, can the air filter be removed for cleaning with the chamber still in place? It looks lile it's too tight. I like the idea of the air filter being a bit to the right and down of the T1R position, and near the OEM duct in the engine compartment wall. But I don't like the idea of removing the battery and disconnecting the chamber each time I want to clean the filter. And can you really rotate that throttle body heater bypass pipe 90 degrees with a hammer without it leaking? Are you kidding?

i dont see how the filter can be removed with the intake/battery in place. it is very tight...

and yea, i gave the TB heater tube 2 light taps with a rubber amllet and it moved easily. no leaks, no problems so far and its been about 5k miles.

OK, thanks, one more question, since PasswordJDM answers emails and seems to have a positive customer service policy: As installed, is there anything rubbing against or denting in the air filter itself? Even though it's tight, is it free of abrasion?

The filter just touches the battery and the cover backing the headlight. I don't think with the engine movement there's any abrasion but, I'm certainly going to keep an eye on it. I'm going to bypass the coolant to the TB. I'm sure the car will benefit some without the hot coolant running through it.

Whoop!!, anything more than 1/4 throttle. Better pull from idle to the top. Fit feels more relaxed above 3K rpm a little less engine breaking as well. Oh, and there's noticeable difference in stance due to weight loss (at first it felt a little more bouncy then settled in)

I'm running clean out of excuses. I have a price from Password for the kit and a CF engine cover. I just have to wait for next paycheck or have a "fit" of reckless passion...

Picked one of these up today used and I was wondering why it won't fit...should'a done my research before hand. I drive an aUTO HAHAHA...well if i relocate the battery away from the engine, like to the back, I think that would solve the problem.

To bad, that I don't read your comment before. "okay" for a $240,- piece?! Sorry, I can't accept that. I have found holes inside the carbon structure. This is really a piece of crap:
Echtes Cold Air Intake - mein beileid neue teile...

example:

Didn't you think about what happens if only one piece of carbon fibre goes into your engine?!

Doesn't PW:JDM have a final quality inspection?!

Bro... so sorry to hear that happened to ya. You're in germany, maybe they had the final inspection but on the way of the shipping they may have been abit rough on it therefore causing the cracks? Did you tell PW:JDM about this? are they going to refund you?

Hey nighthawk how's it on the lower RPMs? Does it perform best at higher? Lower(2800-3800), Higher 4k and up.

They sent a new one to my dealer in netherlands. I hope this one is better.

I don't think it has been damaged as there are 3-4 holes in different places. They didn't used enough resin I think.

And why? Both aren't good for performance and the PW:JDM looks much better.

Cool

I was sooooo close to getting the PWJDM but I got a killer deal on a used T1R that I couldn't pass up.

I would imagine the two perform nearly the same but the big turn on for me was that I could still retain my factory battery and not have to remove the intake to clean the filter....

It's like whatever floats your boat, man.

Either way you're getting a carbon fibre bling box that makes your car sound like an angry bumble bee pretending to be an F1 car.

I'm def. getting the PWJDM engine cover soon! I just wish my T1R was the Kevlar style "yellow/black? cause I just think it looks so amazing on a black car.

Because of the battery relocation ok, but cleaning the filter.. You won't do this very often, so its really ok to remove the whole thing. Its a thing of some minutes.

Don't forget to reset the ecu to "train" it to the new air intake. I found some comments regarding that.

I never did the ecu retraining. How is that done? Can our ecu really learn? I just figured they would continue to run rich with the increased air flow.
