thanks for the replies guys, i went ahead and bought the AFE Pro Dry S stock air filter replacement. I am lazy myself :-D so the cleaning method works out great. Gains are minimal as expected. But you can tell it's better than stock. It's a given.. but no where near the power output H-Fit supa sucka, PRM/Injen CAI had given me.

I recently had to change my battery. While I did that I took off the short ram intake and put the OEM back on with the OEM replacement K&N. It does not sound as loud and the intake temp went down. Hmmm. I am under understanding that cool air is good. Should the car get better mileage? I think that probab;y the CAI is better but I will not take my bumper off every couple of months to check the filter. It seems to me that since it is much closer to the road... ?!?

A lot of hypermilers look for ways to make their intake air warmer, because warmer air uses less energy and saves gas. Colder air is denser and improves performance, but does not necessarily improve gas mileage.

The reason your intake air temperature went down with the stock system as compared to a SRI is that the stocker pulls air in from that same inner fender area that CAI's use. In fact there are "ram air" vents in the left-hand corner of the lower grille to force air into that cavity. Compare that to the SRI, which draws air from the engine compartment.

did I see correctly: a "short ram intake" for $660.00?!? Ha... Ha... Ha... ha hahahaha
Got the short-ram-intake-engine-stutter... tried to upgrade; got rid of it... the upgrade that is... put OEM + K&N filter back on... let the car computer relearn and got rid of most of the stutter. It has to be a problem with the ECU... think of it: all of my wasted $$$!

If you haven't changed your plugs that could be the cause of the stuttering....Also consider a vacuum leak, bad fuel, dirty injectors or a coil with a cracked winding that will eventually quit firing altogether.

I know quite a few pages back someone asked about CARB approved intake's but i am wanting to know if there is an update on this. Are ANY intakes carb legal for the GD yet? Reason i am asking is because i am thinking about trading the Fit in and i really do not want to have to convert back to OEM because its a pain in the ass and i just would rather spend the money for a very quick install.

J's Racing Tsuchinoko Intake Kit

Anyone have the J's Racing Intake kit that can actually comment on the improvement from it over other aftermarket or stock intake setup?

HKS has CARB approved ones. But I don't know if the one for the Fit is. I recently came across a good price for the HKS Racing Suction intake, debating whether I want to spend more money on this car =]

I do. But good luck getting one for the USDM Fit. I've heard that I have 1 of 4.

As for improvement I do believe that it had great improvement. When we dyno'd the fit at a local meet I had my big wheels, kit, and super low (dont know if that affects anything) and I had way better gains than other stock guys.

There are only 4 J's Racing intake made? well I'm actually from Australia. Anyone know if our GD3 is similar to USDM Fit or JDM Fit?

Can you give some feedback on improvement? Where in the rpm range did it gain the most? Also do you need to change the size of the stock battery to make it fit or is it all just bolt on?

You have closer to JDM fit so you should be okay getting the JDM one (but double check).

I'd say it gave better "gain" in the higher rpm...but i really dont notice it all that much nor do I pay attention to it now.

Nope just bolted it no changing of things

Mostly cause I had the intake in the car maybe after a week of driving it and purchasing. Its been 2 years now since I have put it in.

yeah, dont be dissapointed. I don't think anyone really notices any intake, header, exhaust mods. You need a turbo or K20 to notice anything. The rest is just placebo effect. LOL

I would like to share my Apexi SRI:

Name: DSCN2277.jpg
Views: 3321
Size: 621.0 KB

I could feel a slight increase in throttle response and power. The sound is very nice but a little more subtle than I had expected. I think it's a well balanced intake in terms of price, quality, installation, sound, looks, and function.

Awesome! Yea, I thought about the T1R but couldn't justify the price as well. Now the bug has bit me and I am thinking about getting an axle-back muffler
