Its really not that bad of a project, and compared to other headlights I've opened, the shape of fit headlights is really a bonus against fogging up. Where they seal back together really helps.

do you think the same applies for GE8 fits (that's what I have)?

Most likely, given the shape of the lights.

Cool - thanks for letting me know!

Unfortunately, I become jobless a couple weeks ago, so it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

I finished my retrofit

Just wanted to let you guys know that I finally found time to put do my retrofit. It took me 1 afternoon and 2 nights...longer than I expected. So what I used wast he D2S projector kit. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out - I ended up putting the LED strips (that theretrofit source supplies for free if u buy 300 bucks of stuff) around the shrouds to make them be something like angel eyes... they actually look better than I thought they would look. I haven't gotten around to connecting them though...

I also might need to fix some alignment issues...

here are some pictures... enjoy!

F*%$! Awesome. I just have to find time to do mine on my GD3. How did you wire up the hi beam? Because I know that if you hi beam on our cars it would turn off the lo beam.

so the d2s morimoto mini projector kit i got from theretrofitsource comes with the wiring harness that will do that for you. you can also buy it separately from them... all you need to do is connect the original bulb output to the harness, provide power and ground for the harnes, and then connect the harness to the bulb/projectors.

Mini gatlings do not fit the D2s. You have to use the normal size ones. I bought the apollo ones because I need something big to fill the GD3 housing a bit. But the gatling looks nice when I had the H1 mini projectors.

so I hooked up the LED strips around the shrouds ... but I found out the hard way that they're directional... so the one I put in the left is facing the wrong direction!! so when I have time I'll have to fix that.

here's a picture in case if anyone is interested.

having a bit of difficulty understanding without the comparison shot about the "directional" LEDs.

Is the pic you show, of the correct or incorrect LED?

these are the correct side. the other sides have the light mostly going into the projector instead of out at you.

I see.

I was confused because you said the "left" side... I was assuming left as if you were sitting in the car, not looking at it.

I personally think its easier to refer to driver vs passenger sides (of course, that assumes LHD, not RHD cars).

I just purchased the same setup fir my 08. When I tested system before complete reassembly I found that when I turned the headlights on the solenoids pulled to high beam position and would not switch to low beam. The solenoid only go to low position when lights are shut off. Can you give some insight?

Your wires are crossed. You need to swap the wire that is on the lo beam and hi beam.

if that doesn't work... try just playing around with how the wires leading to the solenoid are arranged - i found that if they are too twisted, or if not connected tightly, the high beams won't work correctly. I had the opposite problem - high beams would not turn on - all I did was untwist the wires for the high beams and zip-tied them into place so they wouldn't move... haven't had a problem ever since.

is your ground loop on the passenger side grounded to the frame securely? also - i know that some people had to apply some wd40 onto the shield because it was getting stuck...

Ground is very secure and seems to be no need for wd40 since switching I
Hi low wires cause switch to flip. (I mean when wiring harness as shipped and lights are turned on cause immidate switch to high beam but will not react when switch to low position.) Soliniod switches but it appears that either power is not being switched when flipper is changed. Obviously I'm far from the best electrical trouble shooter. Thanks for continued help though.
