Morimoto Mini Bixenon projector retrofit

I finally started my retro for the fit.

Parts list:
Morimoto Mini Bixenon projectors
Morimoto 35w Ballasts
Morimoto 4300k capsules
E46r Shrouds
Wiring harness I hacked from several different harnesses.. Hopefully it works

Anyhow, I have blacked out the reflector bowl but I am leaving the shroud orange (my fit is a bom). First headlight is in the oven so I can reseal it.

Just to let everyone know why I'm using the morimoto projectors as opposed to the FXR's I have sitting here is because I'm sick of hacking up reflectors and breathing in all that silica dust. The morimotos are plug and play.

Pictures will be here in a few minutes...I just have some extra time right now while she is baking...

I have run into two problems (aside from trying to figure out the wiring which was a pain):
1. The high beam solenoids tend to get stuck in the high beam position. Possible fix later on
2. The rotation was off on the drivers side. -Fixed

Nice work. I am about to do mine as well. But I was wondering if you flick the hi beam on does the lo beam stay on? Did you have to put inline a resister to fix this problem.

So this was the first challenge. Right now, the low beam stays on when the headlight stalk is in either low or high beam position. How I achieved that is I tapped the power line from the headlight harness and grounded on the main ground point (on the frame) rather than 1 of the harness grounds (since the grounds switch from low to high beam).
I took the solenoid and ran it from the harness main power and the high beam ground. I am almost 100% satisfied with the results. I just dont want to tweak it anymore right now.

I really like just the reflector being blacked out. Looks great.

Nice work - I'm dangerously close to buying a very similar setup . . . sucks about your solenoid problems, though.

I'm on the fence as to what shroud to go with.

The gattling shroud that comes with the Morimoto projectors are great. Personally an alternative would be the apollo. For our headlights the shroud needs to be equally big to take up space so it doesn't look small.

Reespeed would you please post some output pics if possible. I'm thinking about retrofiiting with the same projectors.

Here is a link to the projectors output. You can also do minor modification to get a little bit better output.

personally I think it would have looked better if you had color matched the reflector bowl, but over all it looks great

Thanks guys. This was really just a quick job until I get another set of headlights. I'll retro a proper FXR in then but these will do for now. I'll get some output shots in a little while. I still need to do some beam adjustment.

Any chance I could bribe you into doing mine for me? Bad things tend to happen to me when i mess with wiring and Dremel tools. I have headlights coming BTW....
Oh, and your work looks fabulous, I like it alot.

What kind of projectors are you looking to use?

I'm a novice when it comes to retrofitting but the FXR seems like the way to go. I'm open to suggestion if the Morimoto you used for this set is one you would recommend. I have an H4 bi-xenon kit that could be used in conjunction with whatever projectors I'm assuming. And I'm not afraid to pay for the work, but the 1000$ entry point for some of the kits I'm seeing is enough to cause heart failure.
