Looks like I'll get to them later in the week. Too many things to do this weekend. I'll take pictures and post them as I do the install. I did purchase the adapters Indunjon recommended.

Well, I installed my 165 V1 Focals today. I know I promised pictures. When I went to grab the camera it was missing. Turns out my wife took it with her to a baby shower. Since I wasn't about to delay my install any further, I forged ahead.
Removal of door panels went smoothly. Took about 5 minutes to remove both. I already had aftermarket components installed so I needed to swap them out. I removed my Kicker midbass and tweeters.
Upon further examination, it was apparent I would have to do some fabricating to get the Focal tweets installed properly. The original holes were too large as the Focal tweets are smaller than the Kickers. Luckily, I was able to use the Kicker trim ring to enhance the look. The Focal flush mount cup fit inside the Kicker trim ring perfectly. The rest of the tweeter install went without an issue.
Now, on to the midbass speakers. The Kickers were shallow mount 6.5" type and were basically just screwed flush into the area where the stock speakers were. Now the fun part. I used the Metra adaptors Injundon recommended. The inner tangs and two small tabs on the opposite side needed to be dremeled off. Without cutting the metal opening, the Focal midbass will fit in only one way without the outer cage binding on the metal. I mounted the speaker to the spacer first and held the assembly up to the door and marked the pilot holes. Then, separated the speaker from the adaptor and drilled the holes. I then mounted the adaptor and the speaker. The crossovers are small and will fit in a couple of places. I mounted mine near the center of the door. Wiring was straight forward. The inner side of the door panel need to be trimmed. You have to dremel off the entire lip flush with the grill. This will provide enough clearence for the panel to snap back in place without binding. Remember, the Focals are 6.75" mounted on a 1 inch adaptor. Putting it back together went smoothly.
Hope this helps. Again, sorry for not posting pictures. If anyone is interested in the final product, I'll be glad to post that picture.
BTW, Injundon was correct. The Focals are much more effcient than any other set of components I"ve heard in their price range. It was well worth spending 4 hours in 100 degree heat! I was very pleased with the outcome.

Damn, that sounds like a lot of work. I ordered everything but the spacers. I'm not looking forward to touching the doors but I want some focal sound. Also these (polyglass v1) better sound good with the crappy stock deck (plus amplification)

You had better order the spacers... without a one inch spacer, you won't have enough depth. The magnet will hit the window and/or the speaker cage will bind against the cutout in the door. With the spacers, you need to trim the inner panel. There's just no way of getting around it.

They will sound as good as the poop stock radio ca sound. amplifying a bad signal doesn't really hav much if any improvement on sound quality.. just makes it louder.

I'm going to assume you are exaggerating slightly because I don't like any of the aftermarket radio install options.

Not really. Unfortunately when you feed a great speaker and bad sigal you get less than fantastic sound.

I agree... The HU should be replaced to gain full appreciation of your Focals. I've heard that after installing new speakers without replacing the HU, it can be hard to tell any sound difference between the new speakers and the original full range.

HU+Front component speakers+Rear coaxial speakers+Subwoofer+amplification= A good sound system (in most cases).

Ok, I see what you guys mean about the head unit. I was hoping it was just a lack of power and crappy speakers. I'm going to get a Nak deck in the future. That stock unit is by far the weak link now. I can still hear the potential with those Polyglass V1s. With 50 watts RMS they get LOUD.

What is the difference between the Focal 165V1 and the 165A1? Is there significant difference in the sound characteristics? Thanks.

The A1's are the Access model and the V1's are the Polyglass model. I haven't heard the Access version but own the V1's. I believe the the Polyglass to be of better quality and sound.
Here's Focal's website Focal America
