that cowl piece was made for fit of rage, he is a cf freak... that is NOT the scoop, look on the previous page for a model of the scoop

I like the cf cowl cover but can we get one that actually opens the cowl to vent out hot air? basically like the cover but raised so the cowl is still open.

The reverse of the scoop in other words. I have noticed it really is effective in venting hot air from under the hood but would like some protection against rain.

The idea of the cover panel is more just having something that others don't have, and adding an extra little bit of carbon for looks. Does it improve performance? No more than a carbon shifter ring or any interior trim improves performance. It appears that most like the idea of the scoop, however I have found that some don't, so around $40.00 for a little trim piece is just an option.

What I would recommend is someone doing a little aerodynamic test to determine air flow over the cowl. I've done this on a number of other cars over the years but since I don't have a Fit maybe someone else would be willing. All that is needed is to get some yarn and cut a bunch of 4 inch lengths and then tape a row of single pieces about 4 to 6 inches apart in a line from about half way up the hood to half way up the wind shield, leaving a couple inch tail of yarn sticking out each side of the tape. Then take the car out and watch the direction of the tufts of yarn in the wind flow (take it to at least 75 mph). Most cars have a high pressure area right over the base of the wind shield and actually push air into the cowl area. Since the Fit is more angled it may have more laminar flow over the cowl meaning that the tufts of yarn will be pulled to the back of the car and a reverse scoop could work at pulling air out from the engine bay. If the tufts of yarn stand up, point forward, or twirl around rapidly over the cowl, then there is a pressure bubble at the cowl and air will be pushed into the opening.
If someone is willing to try this the results could benefit the developing practical scoop in this area.

Actually my first sentance was in reference to the cowl and in regard to that the thing that I noticed most was actually seeing the heat waves exiting the cowl along with the hood where I raised it. After some highly spirted touge runs it was very noticable that the heat was coming out from the top of the hood and the cowl.

thats why I said it wouldnt look right, why dont you do what sd_mr_fit did to his??? put spacers on the hood latches to raise it a bit, that would help out alot

Heres a little love for Jim, I had to do some sanding on the console to make the ring Fit. I love the way this looks. Thanks Jim.

Can't wait to see how the window switch panels turn out!

Would you want that heat trapped there? I like the fact that heat can come out, but I think a better way would be for the heat to come out through the fenders from the engine bay....

/me gets on to designing something for this on my fit now...

Also, I dropped off all the window control panels and center console (non armrest one) with the sports gear shifter and hope he does something good with the Fog light covers too, need to ship off the steering wheel stuff on Monday.

I just got home, and will be preparing the new body kit for my fit to get painted at Maaco.

Awesome ring btw, I saw the prototype, and it looks great. But you need to give it justice, you need to get a shot that isn't focused on the shift knob.

after it has been test fitted... will take a bit, since the original one hit the hood when raising it.

SO, hope to see one soon =P

George,

Not to belabor my point but yes I know that the reseviors are the only thing that sit there. I was requesting a raised cover so the vent is still open so hot air can exit but yet keep water from entering.

I can't really prove it to you without you seeing it for yourself but it does effectively remove hot air from the engine bay. I know this because I can see the heat waves exiting from the vent when I am sitting still. I will try out the suggestion of checking on the aerodynamics to see if it works better as a vent or a scoop though as that is of interest to me now. Only thing with the scoop is where does the cool air go that is useful? It would only really be useful if the scoop attached to the top of the filter box. or to the filter on an aftermarket intake.

what i did was took off the little panel this morning and didnt see any difference in temp driving..i drive bout 20 miles one way..it was like 70 this morning and my scanguage 2 was saying bout what it normally does ..i have the seibon mg cf hood so some air gets into it.. i was thinking also that maybe some air would get into it with the little cowl panel off but it maybe too aero dynamic for that..or even some heat to get out of the engine area thru it..you can take yours off easily to try it but from what i see so far for engine heat escaping that area and making a diff is about nulll..
i think a big issue is that the throttle body and intake manifold is soo close and over the valve cover and engine that it is getting soooo much heat to them

Have you measurered the ambient air in the engine bay though? I would imagine it may be a degree or 2 cooler and that does make a difference I don't care what anybody says even if it is only 1 degree. I was not talking about your intake air temp. Ambient air temp effects performance as well.

I'll stop this here because its going off topic for what this post entails.
