Yeah they have lifetime warranty as well, so I'm not too concerned, but I wanted make sure I wasn't getting crap. Alright I might get this done Friday. This will make my drive to Yosemite next weekend so much nicer!

That should be cleared up by the time I get there. Fire was 40% contained as of yesterday and it's 15 miles outside of Yosemite, so I should be ok regardless,

What are the jurisdictional rules regarding tint. Example: In New Mexico, Santa Fe county, I have no issues with tint. I'm going 20-25 fronts and 5% sides and rear.

I'm also going to put 35% on the windshield.

Now what happens when I drive to AZ or CA and constipated Mr. Popo see's a blacked out Fit and decides to have some 'fun'?

Be sure and check out the tint thread in my sig. It should answer most any question you might have concerning tint.

As far legality goes, you only have to comply with the state your vehicle is registered in.

So if you have New Mexico tags, then no matter where you go, and no matter what may or may not be legal there, NM law applies. You can't get a ticket no matter what state you roll through, if your tint is legal for your home state.

As far as tinting the entire windshield, that is not legal in any state unless you have a medical exemption sticker. You can apply for one with your state DMV with a letter from your doctor saying why you need darker tint.

In New Mexico you can tint your car with 20% on all windows except the windshield. You can have a visor strip done, any darkness, that comes down no further than the AS1 line or 5" whichever is less.

So, if you get 5% on the rears and anything on the entire front windshield, then yes, expect a cop to hassle you and even ticket you whether you're in NM or Cali.

As far as Johnson Window tint goes, make sure they are using the Insulatir, Executive or Silhouette series of tint. That way you know you are getting the best they make, and it won't even fade, crack, peel, or turn purple as dyed films do.

The least expensive film would be the Silhouette since it is a hybrid metal/dye film (aluminum/dye). This would be a good second choice if price becomes a big issue. It rejects 55% of heat at 20%

Next up would be the Executive series that is a fully metallized film with a neutral appearance. This is really the one I would go with. You can get it in 21% which would be perfect and it rejects 60% of heat.

And the highest performing and most expensive film they have is the Insulatir which is a ceramic film. It rejects 61% of heat and will not interfere with any electronic devices that a metal fiml might. The Fit has an external radio antenna so there's no problem using metal film.

Is there any consensus on the brand "Global" for tint? A local shop that's gotten pretty good reviews told me that they use a hybrid metallic tint from Global, got quoted $150 for entire car. Any ideas fellow fitfreakers? Anyone have Global tint on their car(s)?

I put the 35% all around and it looks awesome. Way darker with black interior thank I though (looks like 20%) and I'm stoked. I'll post pics in the tint pic thread this weekend.

I got 50% on front windows and 20% on the rest. Coming from the rear of the car, you can see the difference immediately, and it simulates the effect of having no tint. Still not legal, but I drive reasonably 99% of the time, so I'm not too worried.

use johnsons film. it cost almost twice as much as solar guard and its just better quality.

i highly recommend getting 5% on the rear hatch. we have small cars and those big trucks and SUVS just blind the heck out of you. so the 5% wont let the light phase you. heh.

if your scared of the law...then do 20 on the sides.

but if you got the hook up with a cop or something...then get 5% all around.
