Question about 2nd gen front seat belt

So I noticed that the driver's seat belt is mounted onto the floor, while the passenger's is mounted to the seat. I am wondering why make this unsymmetrical?

It's exactly the same for the GK and removing the passenger seat is really annoying. I must have done it at least 5 times in my Fit.

Interesting. I have never noticed this and can't think of a good reason. Maybe there is some federal requirement, or maybe the supplier has some reason of their own. But it does seem odd.

Might it have something to do with the location of the gas tank under the passenger seat?

I think passenger side is mostly exhaust. Maybe they were worried about putting a bolt through and having it get hot ...

Left hand drive driver's side is bolted to the floor on the pillar between the doors. On the passenger side, it could have also been bolted to the floor, but Honda chose to bolt it directly to the seat. Would be interesting to see how it is for right hand drive vehicles.
