Ok, second fill now, I haven't changed my driving style at all, still breaking in and I got 2 more mpg than the last tank. I'm up to 33mpg I just topped 1100 miles. My next fill will be interesting because the wife and I spent a good portion of this weekend tooling around town and did quite a lot of city driving. I'm guessing because of how many miles I had on it when I reached half tank but I think I'm looking at another 3mpg gain this tank. We'll see. Sport 5spd. My oil life still at 90%.

My last tank full was interstate driving between Columbus, OH and Cave City, KY with the AC on and speed of 65-75mph. Shell 87 octane, 43 mpg in my base 5 speed.

Mixed/city is putting me in the 35 (worst) to 38 range, this is with 5300 miles on the car since April.

Glad I got a 5 speed vs the slushbox from the posts here.

I am very pleased with my mileage. I have fun driving the car and on my last tank I had an emergency at work so I had a 50 mile stretch over 90 mph. All with a/c on and still 37.5 mpg. Just over 3k on the car now.

Ok I'm seeing a very good trend here, I just finished my 3rd fillup, I haven't changed my driving habits and did a substantial amount of "around town" driving this last weekend. I just posted 35.6 mpg, up another 2 mpg from my last fill. Here's my data thus far. Just in case anybody cares, I'm filling with Marathon regular unleaded 87 oct.

Miles Trip Miles MPG
617 298.6 31.7
931 313.4 33.7
1269 337.8 35.6

Sport 5spd

ps. If anybody would like a copy of the spread sheet I'm using just PM me I'll email it to ya. It calculates fuel costs, averages, cost per mile, etc.

I think the A/C does make some difference to the gas mileage. I picked up my base manual on April 24th, was getting 36-38 mpg in the coolere weather depending on how heavy a right foot I had. Now in Florida it is 80's-90's and humid, the A/C is on all the time and I'm getting around 35 mpg, mostly highway mostly 5th gear. Regular gas, not driving slowly but not using high rpm on acceleration, 2500 miles. Need to check my tires though, was running 36 psi, haven't looked in 2 weeks. Oil 70%

I got 41 mpg on my first tank from dealer(car was at 900 miles--i'll explain later..) and the past 4 tanks have been between 35-36 mpg and I am about to fuel up again at approx 2300 miles. This latest tank is looking to be closer to 40 mpg. I took the recommendation from a few guys on Edmunds.com to shift my 5 spd manual at approx 2500rpm's....but now that I am finding around 3,000 rpm's is actually helping...not sure why???? Anyway, I have the base model. Nice forum here guys!! My driving is 50/50 highway and city and I use my A/C constantly. I usually drive around 75, 80 mph tops on highway.

I'm keeping a close watch and after 700 miles I'm averaging 39.5 mpg. A little of that is mountain driving. I live in a small town, so there's not much stop and go. This is a base model with a manual transmission.

Our Fit has over 6,000 miles now and is still getting between 40 and 45 mpg. Base MT, 44 psi all around, lightfoot driving, max speed 60 mph 50% highway. Our '00 MT Insight with over 175,000 miles gets 70-78 mpg over the same route and same driver.

My 1993 Mazda MX-3 (1.6L) just got 28 MPG on the last tank. Compared to our Fit Sport MT that is barely managing 33 MPG with the same type of driving on the same roads.

If it wasn't for how nice the Fit is overall (ride comfort, handling, interior features and comfort, exterior features), I'd be pretty dissappointed.

I'm hoping the fuel economy improves after the break in period (still has barely 1000 miles on it, vs. my Mazda which has over 100,000 miles).

Ok this is an update for me, today I had to drive to Columbus OH to visit one of our remote facilities. I clocked 269 miles round trip. I had filled the tank yesterday and did 35 miles here and there with the wife. Today was tank #7 and I got 39.1 mpg. It was 92% freeway the rest was 25-40mph stop and go city traffic. I have a Sport MT and 2232 miles on the clock now. My freeway speed was average 67mph and I use the cruise as much as possible. I normally don't use the ac because it hasn't been "that" hot lately. I did however have the windows down most of the trip today because it was warm, Thunder storms on the way home forced them up and I ran the ac a little, just enough to remove the humidity from the air inside. My overall average is 34.8 mpg and I've consumed 54.96 gallons of regular unleaded.

I love this car.

Got 35 mpg on my last tank. 60/40 split (highway/city). Drive 70-80 mph with AC. Have averaged over 33 mpg since I got the Fit. Highest 38 mpg (mostly highway). Fit Sport MT.

chevron

I've noticed getting better gas mileage with Chevron so I've always leaned towarsd Chevron for gas. I always try to get gas from Chevron unless it is inconvenient for me and I'll end up using whatever I see next.

I usually get 30-41 mpg without even thinking about it and just driving as I please. This translates to 20% city and 80% highway on a work week and casual downshifting and redlining.

I've hit 25 mpg once when I driving 85-90 mph highway and I filled up at half tank instead of hitting 300-320 miles on the tank. I usually get 320+ miles and then fill up around 8.4-8.7 gallons.

I haven't read the whole post, but has anyone talked about shift points to get better gas mileage? I dont shift at 3000 RPMs every gear, but instead shift at around the following RPMs. I pretty much drive the Fit like I drove my DC2 GS-R (Integra).

1st-2nd at 3000 RPM
2nd-3rd at 3000 RPM
3rd-4th at 3500 RPM (39 mph)
4th-5th at 3000 RPM (49 mph)

It's something like that. I just know I shift to fourth at 39 mph and to fifth at 49-50 mph.

I'd like to hear where other people shift at. Thanks!

I dont know, maybe it is me but I dont get even 300 miles on a tank......but I have to admit that I drive every day to the mountains to my job, and there are 95% of some serious twist dangerous roads ( I wish car magazines come here to test cars, just to see them really scared) but they are inspiring to the viewer, anD of course to beat the hell out of the fit. Constant gear changes, puting the ABS into test every day (rainy and norrow roads).....

What else could be more fun!!!! So I guess that is why I consume SO MUCH GAS!!!!!

as luck would have it I had to go to Columbus again today... I got 40.2 mpg today, ran the AC a little, had the windows down some, doing speed limit mostly as I was on the clock and I'm happy to just burn my day on the road rather than race back to the office
This was fill #8, I have 2583 miles on it, I got 350.9 miles on the trip meter and it only took 8.719 gal to fill it. My average since taking it home is now up to 35.55 mpg, average cost per mile is .08

a little persepctive I trade in my 05 Hyundai Tucson 4x4 SUV that got 21 mpg on a good day. My total fuel cost with my Fit to date is $173.59 to drive 2263.6 miles. To travel the same distance in my Hyundai would have cost me $294.26 that's a $120.67 savings in less than 1 month. My data goes from my first fill on June 20th to today July 13th.

Man I love this car.

Smile 36 Mpg

I'm getting 36MPG consistantly, mine is the MT and has 3,500 miles on it so far. My driving style is fairly aggressive, although I try not to overrev (not easy in first gear, especially when I'm used the S2000). Most driving is County driving with little stop and go traffic (about 50 MPH in 4th gear).

Smile 36.5 MPG (again)

Update: I'm still getting 36.5 MPG. I filled up today with 9.6 gallons after driving 350 miles. My Fit is manual. My driving is mainly county highway driving at 50 MPH in 4th gear, with a few red traffic lights here and there (when unlucky). I did spend about 1 hour driving up a rather steep and curvy mountain road (maintaining 50-55 MPH by the way, very good) during the time of my last fill up, but still averaged 36.5 MPG.
