The Official Blog from GD to GE to GK to GTI to R?
honestly the AT's on these cars sucksarse imho unless you aren't a car person (like my wife) and just use the car for getting from A to B. my 09 is AT and it is night/day difference between my '12 MT GE as far as drivability, fun, and overall power. you loose so much on the AT's slush box. the paddles that turn with the steering wheel is a joke too. every time i make a left turn at an intersection, i lose position of the paddles. i hate it.
so, if you know how to drive MT, i highly recommend you get the MT.

Thanks for the info it is very helpful. That was one of my concerns if not getting a MT that the car may feel too sluggish. Thought you might recognize the name from the Z forums. You and Waizz are actually the ones that got me looking at Fits for a DD from his thread and both of your discussions on them.
hahaha. yah, no problem.
this is just my personal opinion so if you like AT cars dont take any offense. the AT is smooth and for what it is, it does the job rather well. for entertainment purposes, i post bluntly.
i dd my MT '12. the clutch is light and easy to drive smooth in traffic. what i like about this car is how easy it is to maneuver around town. i have to drive in residential/school zones often (kids) and this car is just excellent for those situations. also around store parking lots, parking garages, etc. i just zip around. my other cars are, as you know, they are powerful but heavy and quite a bit larger. those cars are great for higher speeds and weekend fun, but not at all great for daily tasks... more like useless for daily tasks so i dont drive them during the week.
i think you'll like the GE... especially the MT.

after i do the oil change maybe saturday morning, im going to do some claybarring on the '12. then sunday will do the '09's oil change.
labor day, if i can get some spare time from family time, i will use my RO and Griot's one-step-sealant and polish and seal the '12.

got done with the '12's oil change. just in time cause t-storms on the way.
i used mobil1 green cap (0W20) and immediately noticed that the clicking noise was even less.
i need to go back and wash the bottom of the engine. no time to do it due to sever weather coming in... the bottom of the block's got white oxidation from the winter road salt from last season. shall do it tomorrow since im doing my 09's oil change anyway and will have the ramps out.
to clean the engine, i will use my small boar's hair hand brush (looks like a paint brush) with some diluted simple-green to agitate, and just rinse it all off with a hose or a big spray bottle.
too bad i cant do the spot claying this am due to weather. no time to do it this pm.

finished the oil change on the 09 this am.
also cleaned the engine block on the bottom as well. was pretty easy to do while car was on ramps. used my long handle wheel brush and just blasted the shampoo off.

meh, didn't get much else done on my GE's after the last post. many family related things to do over the long holiday weekend.
im hoping to find some time to spot clay my '12 this week, and start sanding down the touch up i did on the rear bumper where i got a gauge.

I actually thought I noticed this as well. However, it did seem to make the valvetrain noisier after I put a lot of miles on the oil change, more so than the 5W20. I assume because the viscosity will break down even further than 5W20 with some mileage, but i'm no oil engineer...

the '12 has very little clicking noise vs my 09 since new. my 09 is loud. i think it got even louder after the recall long time ago. but turns over fine and runs fine so i guess this is 'normal' for the 09.

will see how the mobil1 green cap does long term.

cant believe it's already the weekend. week went by in a flash.
weather permitting, i hope to do the spot claybar in prep for sealing. i dont know if i will have time to wash the car and do the clay, so will do the waterless wash per panel and clay.
i have a lot of contamination on the front door and the top surface of the rear bumper which is expected. will do those for sure, and also the roof.
until i have time to do the sealant, i will just seal it using Prima Hydro (spray sealant).

was able to do the spot clay today and spot polish. only the hood, front bumper, and rear though.
will do the roof and the front doors next weekend, hopefully.
i used griot's clay (very soft) and scratchX2.0 to remove stains using my griot's 3" random orbital with orange pad.

got my way points programmed on my nuvi for tomorrow's quick road trip.
with the temps dropping, i need to add 2psi to the tires tonight. also need to clean the inside glass. 2 more tasks to the list of tasks i need to do tonight... sigh..
this is the thing about owning 4 cars. there are MANY things to do to keep them running clean, well, and with enthusiasm.
it can be tiring at times. but thanks to having tools and help of technology, it does make my life a lot easier.
in the next 2-3yrs i will be consolidating 2 of the cars into one (one hobby car, one dd), and one dd for the wife to use. this will make room for my kids' car in the future.

had a good drive yesterday during the quick road trip. kids had a great time.
am drive was great with not much traffic, the way back we got hit with quite a bit of traffic on surface roads and maybe 5-6 miles on the expressway, but car felt good, everyone onboard was comfy, and made it safely back.
still really liking my '12 one year since purchase.
such a great little car.

got home early from work and claybar'ed the roof, a-pillar, side panels, and mirror.
now my car has no stains.
and cleaned off the rest of the car using Griot's SprayOn CarWash. this weekend i will use OneStep Sealant to polish and seal the paint in one step. should go by pretty quick, hopefully 2hrs tops.
